Film Quotes of 2012

2012 was a fantastic year for movies. Films like The Dark Knight Rises and Marvel’s The Avengers entertained audiences with blockbuster action sequences and the ultimate in childhood wish fulfillment, while movies such as Drew Goddard‘s Cabin in the Woods and Gareth Edward‘s The Raid: Redemption will long be remembered as putting the nail in the coffin of their respective genres.

We saw new films from acclaimed directors like Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, Ang Lee, David O. Russell, Paul Thomas Anderson, William Friedkin, Steven Soderbergh, Ben Affleck, Sam Mendes, and Kathryn Bigelow. Not to mention the latest offerings from Rian Johnson, Joss Whedon, Richard Linklater, and newcomers Colin Trevorrow, Benh Zeitlin, and Stephen Chbosky.

So many memorable characters – so many great lines delivered by talented actors inhabiting their roles. Here are some of the best (and a few of the worst) film quotes from 2012. Feel free to include your own in the comments! You can also check out my Top 25 Films of 2012 here!

Skull-Face Island Banner

Skull-Face Island Movie Podcast presented by Geeks Of Doom
Episode 06: Premium Rush/JAWS

Greetings! It’s Adam Frazier aka FamousMonster and it’s time for another transmission from Skull-Face Island. As always I’m joined by The Last Starfighter champion David Allen — and a man of many talents, not least of which is knitting, producer Tim Grant.

If you missed our previous transmissions, let me explain how this works. In the year 1991, US Flight 1313 experienced a mysterious, magnetic anomaly somewhere over the South Pacific. Engines failed, pilots cursed and prayed to their Gods, and three boys (that’s us!) washed ashore on Skull-Face Island, which of course is an ISLAND in the SHAPE of a SKULL! How cool is that!?

After exploring the dark interior of the island with machetes and bullwhips, we found an old communications array. Here’s the weird thing, it still works. Not only does it work, this thing is like Netflix, Amazon Instant, Video on Demand, and Apple TV combined – it’s got all the latest movies and television shows. We haven’t even bothered sending out a distress signal yet because we’re re-watching all 635 episodes of Gunsmoke right now”¦

On this week’s transmission, we’ll be covering all the latest movie news and take time out to discuss David Koepp“˜s Premium Rush, as well as the recent Blu-Ray release of Steven Spielberg‘s 1975 classic, JAWS. We’ll also introduce you to MAR-10, our faithful and somewhat insecure robot butler who cleans Skull-Face Island and entertains us with movie news.

Premium Rush PosterPremium Rush
Directed by: David Koepp
Written by: David Koepp, John Kamps
Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Jamie Chung, Dania Ramirez
Columbia Pictures
PG-13 | 91 Minutes
Release Date: August 24, 2012

“I like to ride. Fixed gear. No brakes. Can’t stop. Don’t want to, either.”

Directed by David Koepp (Ghost Town) and written by Koepp and John Kamps (Zathura: A Space Adventure), Premium Rush stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Wilee, a New York City bike messenger who picks up a mysterious envelope from Columbia University.

Detective Robert Monday (Michael Shannon) is a dirty copy with serious impulse control issues, who’s desperate to get his hands on the envelope. Chasing Wilee and his fellow bike couriers Vanessa (Dania Ramirez) and Manny (Wolé Parks) through the streets of New York, Monday must get the envelope before it reaches its intended destination.

“Breaks are death!” To his fellow bicycle enthusiasts, Wilee comes off as a bit of a radical – a former stunt performer on a suicide mission. His fixed-gear bike cannot coast, because the pedals are always moving. Keopp’s film operates similarly, running at one-speed with no brakes until its conclusion.

Premium Rush Header

I for one have never had the luxury of spending any quality time in New York, but if it’s anything like in the movies, it’s one big rush. So if it’s anything like Premium Rush, then I cannot wait to experience the city firsthand. A new trailer for Premium Rush, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is now online. You can check out the trailer below.

Gordon-Levitt stars as a New York bicycle messenger who is tasked with delivering a seemingly harmless message to its destination in 90 minutes. But once an undercover police officer finds out that the message is out there, he demands that it be handed over and soon the messenger is caught up in a conspiracy and chase that covers the length of Manhattan.
