It’s still hard to believe that Game of Thrones is over. There were times when it seemed like the next season might never arrive, and now all eight seasons have come and gone. After its premiere back in 2011, the series quickly developed a rabid fanbase and became a television juggernaut. It was, quite simply, one of the biggest series ever made.
But while the show has indeed ended, HBO released Game of Thrones: The Complete Series last month so that fans can re-visit the story in its entirety whenever they wish to.
It’s a slow news week for obvious reasons, which makes it the perfect time for slightly pointless yet totally awesome videos.
In this video, a robot performs Ramin Djawadi‘s (featuring Tom Morello) main theme from Guillermo del Toro‘s giant monsters vs. giant robots epic Pacific Rim (click here if you’ve not yet heard it or need a refresher), all while a couple of Tesla coils blast bolts of electricity at each other.
The coming of Pacific Rim‘s release is almost upon us. By ‘us’ I mean thousands of nerds chomping at the bit to see Guillermo del Toro‘s latest opus: Giant robot exo-suits bashing the living hell of giant extra-dimensional sea monsters invading the Earth. But something is missing.
“What kind of music goes with titanic human-powered robots fighting kaiju invaders from the briney deep?” you ask.
Well, I’ll tell you. This year’s blockbuster film soundtrack is powered by Ramin Djawadi. Some of his previous works include the first Iron Man and Clash of the Titans movies. Keen listeners will also know Djawadi from a little HBO series called Game of Thrones. If you haven’t listened to any of the Thrones scores yet, I suggest you get on that post haste. Right after Pacific Rim has a go at your ear holes, of course.
Now take a break from Pacific Rim‘s intense visual campaign and have a listen to all of its soundtrack goodness below the cut. Hold on a sec. As an extra bonus I’ve dropped a look at a poster from IMAX’s new Fanfix poster series. The poster was created by artist Sergio Grisanti. You can experience both below.
Topless Robot has posted a video created by Karliene Reynolds and her collaborators at Cabinfever Production Studios inspired by the HBO series A Game of Thrones. Reynolds, with the assistance of Brian Horton, Lin Umstead, and Caleb Cox, created a new arrangement of the show’s theme song “You Win or You Die,” composed for the series by Ramin Djawadi, and added their own lyrics. Reynolds wrote the new lyrics and sang and performed piano on the arrangement. You can check out the video here below.
It’s a very lovely arrangement of the theme and the lyrics are very fitting given the show’s thematic elements. Strange, but I was expecting these lyrics to parody the show rather than honor it. Emotionally straightforward, sad, a bit hopeful at times, it’s an excellent video and a great tribute to a series that’s already shaping up to be another HBO classic.
