Red Hot Chili Peppers To Release Digital-Only Covers EP ‘We Salute You’
  |  @   |

Yesterday I wrote that though the Red Hot Chili Peppers were just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, to a early fan like me, they will always be four guys with socks on their dicks.

Now, the band has announced that in honor of their recent induction, they will be releasing a digital-only 6-song EP of cover tunes, called We Salute You. The EP, which will be available online starting May 1, 2012, has songs from previous Hall Of Fame inductees which the band was musically influenced by: The Ramones, Iggy & The Stooges, Neil Young, David Bowie, The Beach Boys, and Dion and the Belmonts. Three of the tunes are live versions, while five of the six tracks have never been available digitally.

Below is the full track listing, along with details on each track.

Music Review: Red Hot Chili Peppers – I’m With You

Red Hot Chili Peppers
I’m With You
Warner Bros.
Produced by Rick Rubin
U.S.: CD | MP3
UK: CD | MP3
Release date: August 29, 2011

A lot has happened to the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the last 5 years. Since the release of their last album, 2006’s Stadium Arcadium, drummer Chad Smith joined Chickenfoot, bassist Flea went to school, singer Anthony Kiedis grew a moustache, and guitarist John Frusciante left due to “˜musical differences’ (why won’t bands just tell the truth and put out a statement that reads – to paraphrase Friends – “˜it’s just…we hate that guy’?). Now with Josh Klinghoffer on guitar duty, the Chili’s have released album number 10, I’m With You.

As I opened the case I kept repeating to myself, “don’t let me down, don’t let me down…”

Someone heard me. Loud and clear.

Stadium Arcadium had, apart from a small selection of songs including “Dani California” and “Hump de Bump,” had very little to revisit. At 28 tracks long, it was too much and a little self-indulgent. I’m With You includes half its predecessor’s number of tracks and twice the quality.

Songs for Japan, a compilation of 38 songs from some of today’s biggest names in contemporary music, is available through the iTunes store for $9.99. The album is to benefit those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and proceeds from the album’s sale will go towards the disaster relief efforts of the Japanese Red Cross Society.

The compilation album, put together by Universal Music, includes songs from many genres, like rock, pop, hip-hop, R&B, country, new age, and more, with artists like The Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Dylan, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ne-Yo, Eminem, Keith Urban, John Lennon, Enya, Josh Groban, and others.

See full list of artists and songs here below.

Not only is this for a great cause, but it’s also the perfect collection for the all-around music-lover. Plus, these songs individually typically cost 99 cents each, so even if you only like 10 of the 38 songs, it’s well worth the money, and hey, you just might like some of the tunes you don’t know.
