To quote Inigo Montoya, “Let me explain… no there is too much, let me sum up.” If you believe what we’re being told about the year in Wayward Pines, Idaho, 4028, and the town is the last vestige of human civilization – an ark designed by billionaire scientist David Pilcher (Toby Jones). He recruited Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) to help him keep things safe, as there is a growing resistance force within the town, unaware of the dangers that lurk outside the huge electrified fences. Okay, I think we’re good.

Back after a week’s hiatus and we now know the truth about Wayward Pines… maybe. Wayward Pines is Idaho in the year 4028. That’s right, 2000 years into the future. C’mon… the episode is called The Truth?! No way! No way are they going to reveal the secrets of Wayward Pines in only episode 5… right? Well, they kind of do. I have to admit it’s refreshing to have a show answer the questions you have, even if you might not like those answers. I fell in and out of love with LOST quickly, due to feeling like I was being strung along hopelessly. With M. Night Shyamalan attached to Wayward Pines as an executive producer and director, one could be skeptical that everything would be revealed in a huge shock-and-awe ending ala The 6th Sense.

“You think you want to know the truth, but you don’t. It’s worse than you can ever imagine.” Those are the last words of Sheriff Pope (Terrence Howard) before his body is snatched up by some unseen thing from the other side of the electrified fence. With all the craziness in the first three episodes, Wayward Pines went from Twilight Zone-style paranoia to full blown Lovecraftian monster horror. I literally have no clue where this show is heading, and I love it.

In only three episodes, Wayward Pines has got me more twisted than a LOST/X-Files crossover. Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) is trapped in this tiny Idaho town, caged by a giant electric fence, and a horde of Stepford Wives-like residents. His only ally is Bev (Juliette Lewis), who has been trapped in the town over a year. Together, they plot an escape, but things go awry when Bev breaks Wayward Pines rules and discusses her past (a daughter). Soon, the whole town has her strung up Kangaroo Court style, and evil Sheriff Pope (Terrence Howard) kills her.

Spoiler alert for this week’s episode.

Fox’s new 10-episode series, Wayward Pines, debuted last week with a star-studded cast and a plot taken from the dark nightmares of X-Files and LOST. Based on a series of novels by Blake Crouch, the story centers on Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) who awakes from a car accident in the tiny Idaho town of Wayward Pines. He and his partner were to investigate the disappearance of two agents there. What he finds instead are a strange array of characters, who all seem to be lying or hiding something. A nurse (Melissa Leo) at the hospital won’t let him leave. The sheriff (Terrence Howard) is anything but helpful. The one nice person he finds is bartender Beverly (Juliette Lewis) who slips him an address where he finds one of the agents dead and decaying. Unable to reach his office or wife, Burke is quickly losing it. It only gets worse when he finds his former partner Kate (Carla Gugino) who claims to have been lost in Wayward Pines for years!

Done with this creepy town, Burke drives off, only to find the entire town is fenced in and there’s no escape. With nowhere to go, we enter Episode 2…

Wayward Pines is the type of show where halfway through the first commercial you see, you’re already coming up with bizarre theories. Sure, the debut episode was directed by the one time hit-director with a panache for surprise endings, M. Night Shyamalan, so you go in ready to tread carefully. But there is just so much to like in this show, before silly things like plot points and details that make sense, get involved.

Much Ado About Nothing Image

For those who had not yet heard, back when director Joss Whedon was making that little superhero flick The Avengers, he also made an even smaller movie with a bunch of his Whedonverse friends in only twelve days.

The movie is Much Ado About Nothing, an adaptation of the William Shakespeare classic set in modern times. Whedon made the movie through Bellwether Pictures, a micro-studio Whedon started with Kai Cole that’s dedicated to do-it-yourself style indie narratives for all forms of media.

Now this ultra low budget film has itself a release date to plan for. You can find out when you can see it and check out a full rundown of who’s in the movie and who they’re playing below now!

Much Ado About Nothing

Just when you thought Mr. Joss Whedon–creator of Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, among other things–could not surprise you any more than he already has, the man makes Shakespeare…and he does it in complete secrecy WHILE filming the biggest superhero movie of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers.

After a website promoting a Whedon adaptation of William Shakespeare‘s play, Much Ado About Nothing, went live, it was confirmed to The Wrap that it was no hoax and that the micro-budgeted indie project had just wrapped principle photography.

Even more exciting to fans of the “Whedonverse” is that many actors from his past projects came to help when called to help him make the movie…likely for little to no pay at all.
