Video: Very Brief Peek At The Effects Of ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Prequel

A brand new and insanely short video has been released by WETA to tease the effects being used in their Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes (previously just called Rise of the Apes).

The movie takes place well before the Apes take over all things, when tests are being performed on the animals that ultimately cause everything about them to rapidly evolve. The movie will feature performance capture CGI apes, with Andy Serkis playing the main creature called Caesar.

Brian Cox Is The Latest Name To Join ‘Rise Of The Apes’

Well gosh darn it — you want to think a movie is going to be terrible when you hear that said movie will be a Planet of the Apes prequel and that it will use CGI effects instead of the better-known costume and prosthetic effects. But despite all of the alarms going off in our heads about this project, every new casting announcement that comes along seems to add another level of intrigue.

It’s now being reported by The Wrap that the great Brian Cox will be joining the cast of Rise of the Apes, the 20th Century Fox prequel that will take place long before the events seen in Planet of the Apes. Cox will be playing a role he can play to absolute perfection: the villain. He would be playing the owner of a multitude of primates used for testing in a lab that he tends to treat very poorly. This spells bad things for Mr. Cox.

Ape Uprising Begins With Andy Serkis In ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Prequel

When it comes to computer animated primates, Andy Serkis is no rookie. In addition to his wonderful work bringing Gollum to life in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Serkis was the man behind the motion capture creation of Kong in Peter Jackson’s King Kong.

Now comes news that the actor is ready to become ape once again. In a Twitter message from 20th Century’s Fox’s vice president of corporate communications, Chris Petrikin, it was revealed that Serkis would be playing Caeser in their Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes. The VP said “This is cool: Gollum reteams with Weta. Andy Serkis to star as Caesar in ‘Rise of the Apes,’ portraying chimp who leads the simian revolt.”

‘Planet Of The Apes’ Prequel Casts John Lithgow & Frieda Pinto

Rise of the Apes, 20th Century Fox’s Planet of the Apes prequel, is wasting no time waiting around. Since the movie was revealed back in March, we’ve found out that the lead role will be played by James Franco, and now two new cast members are joining the .

It’s being reported that the always-popular John Lithgow has signed on to the project, and he’ll be joined by Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire, Immortals). Lithgow will be playing the father of Franco’s character, who suffers from Alzheimers Disease. Pinto’s role will be the female lead of the movie, a primatologist.

‘Planet Of The Apes’ Prequel Finds Lead In James Franco

The trades are reporting that James Franco has beat out numerous young Hollywood stars to grab the lead in 20th Century Fox’s Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes.

The movie will be set in present-day San Francisco where scientists are deep into the God-playing realms of genetic engineering, which leads to the creation of a highly-intelligent species of ape who eventually rise up and rebel in an attempt to gain supremacy over humans. Franco will be playing a “driven scientist, who becomes a crucial figure in the war between humans and apes.”
