It was not that long ago when it was being reported that Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Daisy Ridley was being courted to play the lead role of Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider reboot. The idea sounded good on paper, as she has proven herself to be able to carry the weight of an iconic franchise on her shoulders, but seeing as her schedule would keep her from starring in another franchise, it would have been impossible to cast her in the new reboot.
Well, it didn’t take long for Warner Bros. to settle on a different actress and one that has appeared in a couple of their films. New reports confirm that Alicia Vikander has been named as the new Lara Croft. More on the story below.
A trailer has been released for The Wave (or Bølgen), a Norwegian disaster flick directed by Roar Uthaug, whose previous credits include Cold Prey (Fritt vilt) and Escape (Flukt). Back in November Uthaug was hired for a much higher profile project, the planned reboot of the Tomb Raider movie franchise.
The movie is set in small coastal village where a rockslide 100 years ago caused a devastating tsunami. The village exists today with the very real possibility of the same disaster happening again at any time, and when it does, the people who live there have only 10 horrifyingly short minutes to get themselves and their families somewhere safe.

The planned reboot of the Tomb Raider movie franchise has found itself a director. It’s being reported that Norwegian director Roar Uthaug has been set to helm the movie for GK Films, MGM and Warner Brothers. Uthaug’s previous credits include Cold Prey, Magic Silver, Escape, and The Wave, which was good enough to be chosen as Norway’s submission to be considered for a Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award nomination.
The project is also looking at a new writer. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the writer behind the Black List script titled Hibernation, is in negotiations to pen the latest draft of the screenplay.
