For two films, Robert Eggers has terrified us with supernatural period pieces in the form of The Witch and The Lighthouse. But it looks like he will be stepping away from that for his next film. But that doesn’t mean he won’t have a stellar cast to work with.
According to new reports, he will be directing The Northman, a grounded revenge story, that will star Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Bill Skarsgård, and reunite him with his Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy and Lighthouse star Willem Dafoe. More on the report below.
You seriously have to love what A24 is able to put out time and time again. The studio pushes the boundaries of cinema with their collection of films, which are directed by visionaries and great storytellers.
Take for instance Robert Eggers, the man behind this year’s The Lighthouse. Shot entirely in black and white, this maritime fantasy horror is also a dark comedy that delves into the madness that two lighthouse men, played by Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, go into when they find themselves seeing strange and mysterious things on a remote New England island in the 1890s.
A24 has released a new trailer for the film, and you can check it out below.

Filmed on a low budget at locations in rural Ontario, Canada, the restrained chills and atmospheric tension of the film festival sensation, The Witch (or The VVitch: A New-England Folktale, as it was originally titled) made a mighty impression on critics and audiences willing to embrace a more cerebral form of modern horror. Now, this terrifying tale of a despairing evil that overcomes a devout Christian family trying to forge their survival off of an unforgiving land comes home to Blu-ray, where chances are it will gain an even larger following.
