Eye of the World - Wheel of Time

Amazon is currently running a special on The Eye of the World ebook for the Kindle for only $2.99.

Originally released in 1990, The Eye of the World is the first installment in Robert Jordan‘s lengthy and awesome Wheel of Time book series.

I’m not sure how long this deal with last, so I highly recommend grabbing it while it’s greatly reduced. Wheel of Time is one of my favorite fantasy series and with a price like this, even though I own two copies of the book already, I’m going to get in on this deal too. Text-to-Speech is enabled for this ebook, which is a bonus — either listen along as you read or do what I do and just listen while you exercise. And it’s like a 1,000 pages long, so you get a lot for three bucks.

If you’d like to own a physical copy of The Eye of the World, the book is also available in paperback for only $6.99. The paperback edition is currently part of Amazon’s 4-for-3 promotion, where you can purchase four select items for the price of three (see the Special Offers and Product Promotions section of the product page).

Wheel of Time #4Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World #4
Written by Robert Jordan
Script by Chuck Dixon
Art by Chase Conley
Colors by Nicolas Chapuis
Letters by Bill Tortolini
Published by Dynamite Entertainment
Price $3.99
Release date: August 11, 2010

We may be only a few months away from a new Wheel of Time book, but if you’re like me, you’re always looking for an excuse to re-read the earlier books in the series. Dynamite Entertainment has been giving us just that excuse with their translation of the first book in the series, The Eye of the World, into comic form. Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World #4 continues the story, with this issue covering chapter 7 of the original novel.

Now, I’m not what you would call the biggest fan of adapted works, but this one has been very decent so far. One thing you can say for it is that it is a direct adaptation that doesn’t stray from the source material. All of the dialogue is straight out of the book, and the plot follows along without any surprises. Chuck Dixon has done his job to translate the book from the written page to the comic. Dixon is able to make the story flow on the page, without making it feel too dry or wordy. Having read the source material so many times, I almost wish there was at least some differences, nothing major, but a nice side plot or something would be okay.

I know I’m not the only one looking forward to the October 27, 2009 release date of The Gathering Storm, the first posthumous novel in Robert Jordan‘s massive Wheel of Time series (the book was co-written by Brandon Sanderson).

On this day, the second anniversary of the author’s death, Tor Books has blessed us by releasing the first chapter of The Gathering Storm on their webpage. If you go to Tor.com and register (registering is free), you too can read the first chapter.

The chapter, titled “Tears of Steel,” starts as every other Wheel of Time book begins, with the familiar phrase “The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.”

WoTFor those of us who are, first and foremost, book lovers, this news is bittersweet. Universal Pictures has announced that they have just purchased the film rights to one of the biggest fantasy epics of all time, The Wheel of Time.

Written by the late Robert Jordan, the 13-book series is nothing short of epic. Having sold over 44 million copies worldwide, and spawned a mass of byproducts like role-playing games and trading cards, not to mention comic books and your run of the mill fan sites, WoT is definitely a beloved series.

According to Variety, the adaptations will begin with the first book, The Eye of the World, which introduces us to the central characters who will take us throughout the series. Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon will produce for Red Eagle Entertainment, which published graphic novel adaptations of Jordan’s books.
