After ‘Independence Day 2’ Roland Emmerich Wants To Make A Rebooted ‘Stargate’ Trilogy
  |  @   |

We’ve heard plenty about Roland Emmerich‘s work to make Independence Day 2 happen and trying to get Will Smith to return to star, but Emmerich is already looking beyond that.

In a recent interview, the director talked about how he’d also like to reboot Stargate and make a new trilogy out of it. Stargate was originally co-created by Emmerich and Dean Devlin, who also worked with Roland on Godzilla, The Patriot, and the past and future Independence Day flicks. The first movie was released in 1994 starring Kurt Russell and James Spader. After the movie numerous TV series, video games, and an animated series followed.

Roland Emmerich Has Been Talking To Will Smith About The ‘Independence Day’ Sequel
  |  @   |

Will Smith was once the one star you could bank on making a successful summer blockbuster. But apart from recent efforts like After Earth, a turn to more dramatic projects, and molding his kids’ careers, we haven’t seen the actor grace the big screen much.

When plans for a series of Independence Day sequels started to arise, one of the first questions was how many actors would be coming back to reprise their roles. Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum were confirmed to be one of the major stars to return, but according to Roland Emmerich, Smith’s price tag may be too high just to reprise a role. That was back in June. Now the director is singing a slightly different tune as he has revealed that he has been in talks with the actor.

Roland Emmerich Says Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman Will Return For ‘Independence Day 2’
  |  @   |

We just found out that Will Smith might not be appearing in the two planned Independence Day sequels because his price tag is far too high. Some would argue that doing the movie without Smith’s face plastered on all of the posters, no matter what the price is, is pointless. But they’ve been prepared to make the sequels without the megastar for a couple of years now at least.

While doing a Q&A session for his latest movie, White House Down, director Roland Emmerich was asked about what other stars of the first movie we might see in Independence Day 2 we might see return if not Smith, to which he replied that both Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman were on board so far.

Will Smith Price Tag Too High For ‘Independence Day’ Sequel
  |  @   |

Roland Emmerich has been talking about an Independence Day sequel for sometime now, which happens to coincide with the release of his upcoming film White House Down. We’ve learned that the sequel will be broken up into two parts – with the first installment being titled ID Forever, Part I, will take place 20-25 years after the events of the first film, and will feature the return of some characters. Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum are reportedly returning to duty, and that some of the younger characters from the first film will be back as well. But the one person who isn’t coming back is Will Smith, due to the fact that he is just too expensive.

But Emmerich also says that Smith is just too much of a marquee name and that his stardom will get in the way of the film.

‘White House Down’ Trailer: Destroying U.S. Landmarks Is A Habit For Roland Emmerich
  |  @   |

One can’t walk out of a Roland Emmerich film without seeing the White House being annihilated. Sure we’ve seen aliens fire upon it, colossal waves wash over it, and climate changes freeze it, but White House Down will be director’s first film that is directly set in the historic landmark.

Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx play Secret Service agent John Cale and the President of the United States, respectively, who must work together to find out why international terrorists brought the White House down, what their true intentions are, and to save Cale’s daughter Emily (Joey King). A new four-minute trailer has popped up online, and it appropriately shows how the White House is brought down in a way that only Emmerich could think of, which is massive.

Check out the new trailer for White House Down below.
