NBC Picks Up ‘Romancing The Stone’ For TV Adaptation; Shawn Levy Could Direct
  |  @   |

NBC has acquired the rights to adapt the 1984 Robert Zemeckis action–adventure romantic comedy, Romancing the Stone, into a TV series.

The deal with NBC comes from 20th Century Fox TV and Shawn Levy (director, Night of the Museum 1 & 2, Real Steel) and Marty Adelstein‘s (producer, Hanna, Prison Break) 21 Laps Entertainment and Adelstein Productions. Mark Friedman (writer, Home of the Brave, creator/writer/producer, The Forgotten) will write the adaptation, and Levy could step in to direct if no feature film projects (like Night of the Museum 3) become available to him.

‘Romancing The Stone’ Remake Still Happening?
  |  @   |

This week is one of forgotten remake projects sudden popping their heads of to say, “I’m still here!” Invisible Man, Vacation, Fletch, and The Fantastic Voyage are all apparently alive and well, and so is the planned remake of Romancing the Stone.

It was way back in December 2008 when it was announced that FOX would remake of the 1984 romantic comedy adventure starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito. Originally, the studio wanted their new movie to come out in 2011, with Daniel McDermott penning the script. Exactly one year later, it was reported that Robert Luketic had been been brought on to direct the remake.

Now, MovieHole is reporting that this long-forgotten remake is still a-go, though Luketic is off the film and FOX on the lookout for a new director who will have a “fresh, exciting take” on the project.

‘Romancing The Stone’ Remake Gets A Director; ‘Overboard’ Remake Coming
  |  @   |

A year ago we found out that a remake of the 1984 classic Romancing the Stone was in the works with Daniel McDermott (Eagle Eye) hired to write the script. No one enjoyed hearing this news, and no real updates ever came of the project leaving us all to hope it had been scrapped. It’s not so easy; reports from Pajiba state that the remake is still moving forward, and that Robert Luketic has been brought on to direct.

Luketic has a major resume for those who are fond of what we know as “Chick-Flicks” that includes Legally Blonde, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, Monster In-Law, and most recently, The Ugly Truth. He also directed the card math movie 21, and he is currently slated to be the man directing the limbo-trapped Barbarella remake. He even did a little short film in 1997 called Titsiana Booberini. Yeap.

With this information, you can basically just take all of those movies (with the exception of Booberini, of course) and watch the entire Romancing the Stone remake in your mind right this very moment, though I’m not sure this is a good thing.

‘Romancing The Stone’ Next To Get Remake Order
  |  @   |

We’re all very used to any movie that was made prior to 1990 being scheduled for the remake treatment, so it shouldn’t hurt so much anymore. But still, when you hear of a movie that you love being called into the office for its makeover, one just can’t help but to feel a little sting inside. Fans of the 1984 Romancing the Stone now feel this sting as Fox has announced a remake of the movie for 2011 with Daniel McDermott (Eagle Eye) signing on to write it.

The original starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner as an unlikely pair who end up on a wild adventure to find a priceless stone. Lots of running, lots of shooting, and a little Danny DeVito later, a fairly loved classic was born.

Honestly, I can’t even tell you where they might go with this. It’s fairly simple a story, so what could they possibly do in a re-tune? Will it be a shot-for-shot remake with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman? Will it be moved to the middle east and involve escaping terrorists in the search of a priceless camel spider?
