Have you ever wondered how Invincible might taste? Weird question, sure, but Invincible #104 might just have an answer for you””whether you want one or not. What’s on the menu at Image Comics today? Robert Kirkman and crew serve up a delightful course of relational quandaries topped off with cannibalistic Invincibles from other dimensions!

Way back when, Angstrom Levy gathered an army of Invincibles from across the multi-verse to kill Mark Grayson. After their defeat, the remaining Invincible duplicates were all stranded in another dimension, forced to survive on their own. In present day, Levy continues to hold Eve hostage, ensuring that he’ll kill her just as soon as Invincible returns; however, even unable to use her powers, Eve makes a daring attempt to ensure that no harm come to her or her unborn child. Meanwhile, Invincible finds himself stuck in the dimension that the other Invincibles had been stranded in and what he finds are just two survivors: a deranged cannibal version of himself who has seemingly eaten many of the others and a remorseful Invincible who is bent on vengeance against his flesh-eating counterpart and Angrstrom Levy himself.

Say what you will about its creator, but Youngblood #75 is just balls out FUN! This is totally a 90’s comic set in modern times, and that’s exactly what it should be. Looking for fun? You found it!

Jim McLaughlin puts out another great issue of this classic Image series. I can’t tell you enough how much PURE fun this book is! It’s got all the hallmarks of the Youngblood series that we grew up with, only better. There’s TONS of action, snappy dialogue, great superhero stuff, and a little touch of modern day situations. Besides the main story, McLaughlin sneaks in a couple of really interesting subplots that are going to be pretty fantastic when they come to fruition.

Image Comics
Release Date: May 23, 2012
Cover Price: $2.99

Astonishingly, Youngblood #71 is something that falls into the “things I didn’t know I wanted or needed category,” like Rocky Balboa — who knew we needed an official ending to the Rocky story? Not me, but it sure was awesome. Also, the film Rambo. The last scene where John Rambo walks down the driveway to his family’s farm was, again, an ending that I didn’t know I needed. But again, I was surprised and satisfied that I got it. Truth by told, I stopped paying attention to Youngblood about a couple years after it started coming out, so why then was I excited for this issue? Some would say nostalgia (who, me?), but most of all, it’s because I have been impressed by the other Image titles that have came back for the 20th anniversary that have been fantastic! And out of all those titles, Youngblood was the only one that I cared about originally.
