Nightmare Cinema

You’re not going to find many horror fans who will ever get sick of anthologies. They may not all be good, but they’re almost always worth at least one watch on the likely chance that at least one of the segments will be fun.

One upcoming horror anthology is titled Nightmare Cinema. It features five tales directed by Mick Garris, Joe Dante, David Slade, Alejandro Brugués, and Ryûhei Kitamura, and stars Mickey Rourke as the character who is connected to the various stories, known as The Projectionist.

A new trailer for the movie has been released, and you can find it below along with a synopsis.

The Midnight Meat Train
Unrated Director’s Cut
Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura
Starring Bradley Cooper, Leslie Bibb, Vinnie Jones
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release date: February 17, 2009

Whether we like it or not, our names do define us. Some are blessed with awesome names such as Alex Starbuck, while others are forced to live with the name Richard Rider (give it a moment, you will get it). My point is, a name is very important and can make you or break you. Had someone told the producers of The Midnight Meat Train, I think the movie would have had a much deserved longer lifespan than it did in theaters.

The Midnight Meat Train tells the story of struggling photographer Leon (Bradley Cooper) in need of his big break. In search of more realistic images, he comes across the mysterious Mahogany (Vinnie Jones), a sharp dressed passenger on a train with a secret. It seems Mahogany loves his day job as a butcher so much that he is spending his nights butchering unsuspecting straphangers. When Leon suspects Mahogany’s midnight activities, he decides to gather evidence on the butcher to bring him down once and for all and in the process gets pulled deeper into Mahogany’s world.

MMTFirst, Liongate delayed the May 2008 release of Midnight Meat Train, then decided to go direct to DVD. If that wasn’t bad enough, the studio then smacked it in the face with a limited release to 100 bargain theaters in August. As of October 1, the film is be available through FearNET’s Video On Demand service until December, and will make its Web debut on FearNET.com on October 30.

The few people who’ve seen the Ryuhei Kitamura-directed film, based on the short story by Clive Barker, gave it great reviews, so it’s a mystery as to why the studio has buried this release.

For those of you in the Chicago area on October 25, Clive Barker will be hosting a screening of Midnight Meat Train, which will be followed by a Q&A and signing, as part of at the Music Box Theater’s Massacre 4.
