Directed by Gary Shore, Dracula Untold tells the story of Transylvanian prince Vlad III ÈšepeÈ™ (Luke Evans), whose period of peace is threatened when Sultan Mehmed II (Dominic Cooper) demands 1,000 of his kingdom’s young men, including Vlad’s own son, Ingeras, to join his army.
To save his son, his wife Mirena (Sarah Gadon), and the land he loves, Vlad journeys to Broken Tooth Mountain. There he encounters an ancient sorcerer, Caligula (Charles Dance), and enters into a Faustian bargain – one that gives the prince the strength of a hundred men, the speed of a falling star, and the mystical powers necessary to vanquish his enemies. In return, he will be afflicted with an insatiable thirst for human blood and fulfill his destiny as the legendary Count Dracula.
The upcoming Dracula origins movie Dracula Untold has been on the way for quite a while now. Once upon a time it was called Dracula: Year Zero, with director Alex Proyas (Dark City) set behind the camera and Avatar star Sam Worthington attached to the lead role. But before the movie went into production, Universal Pictures decided the budget was too high and delayed the project.
Eventually the studio found a new director in Gary Shore, making his feature debut, and a new lead actor in Worthington’s Clash of the Titans co-star Luke Evans, putting the movie back in business.
Now the first trailer for Dracula Untold has been released, and, believe it or not, it actually looks pretty promising. Whether the final product will deliver remains to be seen, but for now you can check out the trailer and share your thoughts below.
Ever since Sony announced that they were releasing The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 in the coming years, Shailene Woodley‘s role as Mary Jane was thrown into the rumor mill. In a matter of hours Woodley’s involvement went from being cut out of two and introduce her in 3, to her being cut out from the film entirely. Part of this reason is because Woodley is on contract to appear in an adaptation of the Divergent novel series, which is more than just one book, which also conflicts with her schedule.
It has been made clear that Mary Jane would not be a vital part of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to begin with, and that her biggest role would be in the sequel. Not too long after director Marc Webb made his announcement to streamline the Mary Jane character to focus on Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy’s relationship, EW Canada reports that Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Mind, Cosmopolis) has reportedly signed on to appear in the film, which could possibly mean that Woodley’s replacement has been found.
