The Most Shocking Moments Of ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 1

The vacant throne

This article only addresses events that happened during the first season of the HBO TV series Game Of Thrones, not how they were originally portrayed in the George R. R. Martin’s series of novels, A Song of Ice and Fire.

Game of Thrones has delivered unto us a show that is as rich as it is complex, a fantasy show flush with blood, lust, and treachery. To say that the bar hasn’t risen to unfairly high levels for the second season is an understatement, and saying that the show’s propensity for the truly shocking has added to those great expectations is certainly another.

In advance of Sunday night’s premiere of Season 2, we thought it best to highlight some of those shocking moments from Season 1; those scenes that made your jaw drop and your pulse quicken.

Warning: There are tons of spoilers beyond this point.

I’ve made it no secret how much of a fan of HBO’s original programming and similar shows I am…to the point of it being difficult for me personally to even watch regular network/cable TV shows not named The Walking Dead anymore. Two of my favorite current shows are on HBO, one being Boardwalk Empire and the other being, big surprise and SPOILER ALERT: Game of Thrones.

And while it’s silly of me to give away my feelings on the first season of the series so early in my review, allow me to tell you why I’m so googly-eyed over this wonderful, wonderful world.

Game of Thrones

Fans of author George R.R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire book series and the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones, are well-familiar with the motto of House Stark: Winter is Coming.

And though winter is indeed coming soon to most of us (if it has not already arrived where you are), it’s also the holiday season, and so why not jolly things up a bit?

Someone took the great promo shot of Ned Stark (Sean Bean) sitting upon the Iron Throne (seen above) and added a little Christmas festivity to it. The pictures is, quite perfectly, titled “Christmas is Coming.” Ned, of course, is still not smiling in it, but it remains amusing photo to see.

You can see the full image below.

Lily Collins stars in Relativity Media's Untitled Snow White Project.02

Relativity Media is jumping on the sudden tide of fairy tale-inspired films and television series so wonderfully started by the “classics” Beastly and Red Riding Hood with their upcoming film Untitled Snow White. Yes, you read that correctly, the film is called Untitled Snow White. Let’s hope the powers that be change that before the film releases, but for now that’s the title in the press release.

This reimagining of the classic story features Julia Roberts, Lily Collins (The Blind Side), Arnie Hammer (The Social Network), Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), and Nathan Lane (The Bird Cage).

In the race of Snow White projects, Relativity Media seems intent on winning at all levels. The studio has the earliest release date (March 16, 2012), and now they’ve released the first official image from their movie…which doesn’t even officially have a title yet.

In the movie, Lily Collins (daughter of the legendary Phil Collins and star of The Blind Side and Abduction) appears as Snow, while Julia Roberts will be playing her stepmother and the Evil Queen, Game of Thrones star Sean Bean is King and father to Snow, and The Social Network star Armie Hammer is playing a prince and love interest. Tarsem Singh (The Cell, Immortals) is directing the movie.

The first official image from the movie shows Collins as Snow White, and you can see the pic by heading on over to the other side now.

Watch Now: The 21 Deaths Of Sean Bean

BAADASSSSS!   |

Sean Bean

Let me start off this article by saying something that I know a lot of people think but rarely vocalize: Sean Bean is a great actor and one badass motherfucker. When he’s not kicking ass in movies like The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the recent Black Death and on television in HBO’s Game of Thrones, he’s waving off stab wounds after defending the honor of his girlfriend in a bar fight.

He’s also been killed more times on screen than most actors I or you can think of, and usually in spectacular fashion. Never let it be said the man didn’t know how to make a great exit. A few days ago, Harry Hanrahan over at Pajiba put together a 4-minute-long video compilation of Bean’s death scenes and set to Giles Lamb and the Dead Island Quartet’s theme music from the announcement trailer for the video game Dead Island.

You can watch the video here below.

‘Game Of Thrones’ & ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Star Sean Bean To Be King In New ‘Snow White’

The most active of the many Snow White projects as of late is Universal Pictures’ Snow White and the Huntsman, but let’s not forget the other high–profile Snow White projects being developed: Disney’s Snow and the Seven is still on the way, and Relativity Media also has one on the way that’s putting together its own decent cast.

The movie was once called The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, but is now said to be “untitled,” so it’s unclear whether that title is still in play. This version of the fable stars The Blind Side and Abduction actress Lily Collins as Snow, with Julia Roberts playing her evil stepmother and Queen, and The Social Network and new Lone Ranger Armie Hammer playing her prince charming–type love interest.

Now the man you have to cast if you have the chance to cast him, Sean Bean, has been added to the party. Bean is in final negotiations to play the role of the King and father to Snow White.

Game of Thrones
Season One, Episode Ten – Fire & Blood
Directed by: Alan Taylor
Written by: David Beinoff and D.B. Weiss
Starring: Mark Addy, Alfie Allen, Sean Bean, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Fairley, Aidan Gillen, Jack Gleeson, Iain Glen, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Issac Hempstead-Wright, Harry Lloyd, Richard Madden, Rory McCann, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Conleth Hill, and Charles Dance

I hope everyone enjoyed the first episode of Season Two of Game of Thrones.

Confused? Let me explain.

“Fire and Blood” is in a unique position in that it feels more like the first episode of season two rather than the season one finale. The cliffhanger in “Baelor” felt more like a traditional finale, where the majority of this episode sets up our various players for the next round of the game.

Geek Discussion: Why You’re Out Of Your Freakin’ Mind To Stop Watching HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ Now
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

First of all, let it be known that this discussion will include major spoilers. If you’re not caught up with Game of Thrones yet, do yourselves a favor and finish watching the entire first season before reading on!

OK—so this was supposed to be a little chat about last night’s season finale of Game of Thrones and what everyone thought. Instead, it’s come to my attention (many of you have most certainly noticed this as well) that there’s really not a whole lot to discuss. It seems like 99 percent of all people who have watched love every second of what they’re seeing. That, paired with the fact that many of you have read the books and know exactly where the story is going (spoilers about the show are fine here; book spoilers are a big no–no considering so many want to see it before reading), makes this feel like a finale that doesn’t need to be chatted about so much as it needs to be admired collectively.

Continue reading to see just what caught my attention, what we should be discussing, and why—as so eloquently stated in the headline above—you would be downright out of your freakin’ mind to stop watching Game of Thrones now.
