When Sony’s PlayStation media briefing at E3 2017 kicked off tonight, the music that began playing immediately reminded me of some music from an all-time favorite game of mine, Shadow of the Colossus. After a few seconds it became clear that it definitely wasn’t—it ended up being for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy—but still, for a moment I was very excited.
Then, as if the video game gods had felt that excitement, a trailer for a Shadow of the Colossus remake was playing on my screen, and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I then found out that whispers of this began making their way around the ‘net hours ago, and I was one of the few actually shocked to see it. But nevertheless, the excitement was real.
If you weren’t already aware of the remake, continue below to watch the trailer and join me in being overwhelmed with happiness!
A new director has been hired to take on Shadow of the Colossus, the movie adaptation of the hit video game of the same name. The movie has been in development since 2009, but hasn’t found a way to make it into production yet.
Last we had heard, Chronicle director Josh Trank had come on board to develop Shadow of the Colossus, a movie based on the fantastic PlayStation 2 video game of the same name for Sony.
Now comes word that a writer for the project has been hired in Seth Lochhead. Only one notable credit to his name so far, Lochhead previously wrote Hanna, the movie about a young girl (played by Saoirse Ronan) raised in the wilderness and trained to be a deadly assassin.
We’ve heard rumblings of a movie based on the beloved boss fights-only PlayStation 2 game, Shadow of the Colossus, in the past. It’s been three years since the last time, which was only news that Sony was developing the project with Justin Marks writing a script.
That attempt clearly didn’t transpire quite as well as hoped, and now another shot at turning Colossus into a movie is underway. It’s being reported that the increasingly popular Josh Trank has been grabbed by Sony to develop the movie, which he will also direct if/when it ever gets the greenlight to go into production. He’ll also be finding a new writer to work with on a new script.
If you call yourself a “gamer” and have never played Shadow of the Colossus, it’s time to get on that immediately. And as luck would have it, Sony Computer Entertainment has just released a special new remastered high definition collection of the game paired with another beloved title, Ico (which you can pick up here).
If you happen to be into metal AND games, well, then do I have a treat for you. YouTube user ferdk16 has put together a medley video of himself rocking out some of the music of Shadow of the Colossus on an electric guitar…and it’s pretty gosh darn epic.
