Dark Phoenix may be the final X-Men film under the 20th Century Fox banner before it goes over to Disney. If that is the case, then they will be going out on their own terms. And it looks like director Simon Kinberg could end the franchise with a story arc that we have already seen before: “The Dark Phoenix Saga.”
In it, Jean Grey becomes possessed by a cosmic entity and kills nearly all of life in the process. With the X-Men trying to regain control of their friend, there are outside forces that seek to manipulate her. And now we are seeing more of that, and how the new villain (Jessica Chastain) will stop at nothing to use Jean’s (Sophie Turner) new powers for her own nefarious goals. Fox has released a new trailer for Dark Phoenix, and you can check it out below.
This year is the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Of course, may of us will probably be unsure what to do in the weeks after the finale, but that is for another time.
So as we prepare for the inevitable, let us take a look what what we can expect to see from the upcoming final season with a handful of new photos of Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Varys (Conleth Hill), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), Samwell Tarly (John Bradley West), Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham), and, of course, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). Check out these new images below.
Dark Phoenix, the latest installment in the X-Men film franchise, was supposed to be released in November. But the film needed some additional photography and reshoots, and as a result, it pushed the release date to February of next year. Whether or not this was a sign of trouble is unknown. But at least we get to finally see what has become of Simon Kinberg‘s directorial debut.
Fox has dropped the first trailer for Dark Phoenix, which is based on the story arc of the same name which sees Jean Grey, one of the most powerful members of the X-Men, fuse with a cosmic entity who has the power to destroy the entire galaxy. Check out the trailer and a new poster below.
When Fox announced that X-Men: Dark Phoenix would be pushed up from its original November 2018 release to February 2019, most took it as a bad sign. The film, which would mark Simon Kinberg‘s directorial debut, would need some additional photography — meaning, reshoots — after some test screenings, which is part of the entire process to help make improvements for the film. But the new release date was troubling at best. And with much of the cast having already moved on to other things since production ended last year, it would be difficult to get everyone together. Luckily, rumors of a 3-month additional shoot have been exaggerated. More on the story here below.
And this time, we will get it right. Or at least we can hope that Simon Kinberg gets it right as he makes his directorial debut with X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which as you could have guessed, will be a loose adaptation of the “Dark Phoenix Saga” comics storyline written by Chris Claremont. Though, this wouldn’t be the first time that the X-Men franchise has attempted Dark Phoenix in a film. In 2006, X-Men: The Last Stand tried to use a resurrected Jean Grey (then played by Famke Janssen) as the Dark Phoenix who was being manipulated by Magneto (then played by Ian McKellen).
Now with the film franchise’s timeline being rebooted, we can look forward to some wrongs being righted. We are getting our first look at Dark Phoenix, which includes our very first peek at Jessica Chastain‘s villainous character. Check them out below.
