Warner Brothers’ Fantastic Beasts film franchise has given Harry Potter fans a look at a piece of history before the young wizard went on to save the world. So far, the two films have explored different geographical locations, with Where to Find Them (2016) set in New York, and The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) set in Paris.

Now the franchise heads to a new direction. This time they are heading to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Not only that but author J.K. Rowling will be penning the script with Steve Kloves. More on all of this below.

‘The Hobbit’ Star Andy Serkis To Direct ‘The Jungle Book’ For Warner Brothers
  |  @   |

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Andy Serkis, the actor best known for his performance capture work in movies like The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies as Gollum, King Kong as Kong (and also in the non-performance capture role of Lumpy), Rise of the Planet of the Apes as Caesar, and The Adventures of Tintin as Captain Haddock, has been hired to direct a live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book for Warner Brothers.

If the project sounds familiar, it’s because Walt Disney is also doing their own competing live-action take on the story they turned into the 1967 animated classic. That version will be directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Elf) and star Idris Elba as the villainous tiger Shere Khan.

‘Harry Potter’ Scribe Steve Klove To Direct Live-Action ‘Jungle Book’ For Warner Bros
  |  @   |

Move over Disney, there’s a new studio that wants to tell the tale of The Jungle Book, Rudyard Kipling‘s collection of stories about his adventures and excursions in dangerous jungles. Though the most notable incarnation of Kipling’s work was the animated version that Disney released, the studio also had a live-action move starring Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli.

Warner Bros. is hiring Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves to write and direct the new live-action version of The Jungle Book. This wouldn’t be the first time that Kloves has directed a movie. He previously worked on The Fabulous Baker Boys and Flash and Bone.

Lately, however, things appeared to be moving forward, and doing so at a quick pace. Beginning this past October, the movie was officially greenlighted after some budget problems were ironed out and a star was found in Tron: Legacy‘s Garrett Hedlund. Then came word that The Twilight Saga star Kristen Stewart might be in line for the role of Kei.

Now things have yet again taken a turn for the worst (if you wanted to see this movie happen, of course). It’s being reported that Warner Brothers has shut down production, with one insider saying “everyone is being sent home.”
