Variety is reporting that Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to star in a remake of Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz’s 1984 cult classic, The Toxic Avenger.
For those unfamiliar with Troma Entertainment’s slice of low-budget sleaze-cheese, The Toxic Avenger tells the story of Melvin Ferd III, a 98-pound weakling who works as a janitor at a health club in Tromaville, New Jersey. A gang of beefcake bullies toss the denim-clad poindexter into a drum of toxic waste, transforming him into a hideously deformed monster of superhuman size and strength: the Toxic Avenger!
Whether or not Terry Gilliam is interested once again in adapting Miguel de Cervantes‘ Don Quixote for the big screen is unknown. But you can’t blame the man for passing on the project all together. His first attempt at adapting the novel, which would have starred Johnny Depp, was hampered by inclement weather, illness, and other obstacles. So Gilliam decided to give it a second try, this time this time starring Robert Duvall; however, financial problems prevented the project from getting off the ground.
So far there hasn’t been any word of Gilliam going for try number three. The director is currently busy working on his new film, The Zero Theorem. But the story of Don Quixote will not die; in fact, Disney will revive Cervantes’ tale and Johnny Depp could star in it.
The Toxic Avenger is one of those nasty, brutally violent, sex-filled films that you can’t help but watch. Sure enough with any film that has a cult following as large as it has, there will be studio heads looking to reboot the film.
Steve Pink has been attached to direct the film for some time now and although things looked like they haven’t been progressing as quickly as some would have liked, this latest bit of casting rumors should give it the push it needs to head into production. The rumor that is going around is that John Travolta has been approached to appear in the reboot of The Toxic Avenger.
Bad Santa is the dark comedy that’s just perfect to show to friends and family during the Christmas holiday. Billy Bob Thornton, the film’s lead star, has been aching to get back and reprise his role for a sequel, and it looks like Santa will give him his Christmas gift early this year.
It’s being reported that Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink is in talks to write and direct Bad Santa 2.

Of the announcement, Pink stated that “The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country–wait, that’s not big enough–what the WORLD needs right now!”
