‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ Trailer: John Boyega Fights A Different Kind Of War
Universal has released the first trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising. Directed by Steven S. DeKnight, with a script by Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and Steven S. DeKnight and T.S. Nowlin, the sequel stars John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Scott Eastman in new roles. The film also sees the return of Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day, who reprise their respective roles.

Geek Peek: First Look At John Boyega In ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’
Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega has shared the first image of his character in Pacific Rim 2, which is officially titled Pacific Rim: Uprising. Boyega plays a character named Jake Pentecost, the son of the original movie’s Stacker Pentecost, played by Idris Elba.
The movie is the follow-up to Guillermo del Toro‘s 2013 giant robots vs. giant monsters movie. This time around it’s Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil, Spartacus: Blood and Sand) directing, with del Toro remaining involved as a producer.

Scott Eastwood In Talks To Join ‘Pacific Rim 2’
Even with all the problems it had, interest in Pacific Rim 2 remains strong. The film recently cast John Boyega as son to Idris Elba’s character, and scheduled a February 2018 release date.
But it appears that he won’t be the only actor to be in the film. According to new reports, Scott Eastwood – Clint Eastwood’s son – may be joining Boyega for the larger-than-life bouts between the Kaiju and the Jaegers. More on the story below.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Star John Boyega Joins ‘Pacific Rim 2’
At the start of the year, it was reported that Daredevil season one showrunner and Starz’s Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight would be directing Pacific Rim 2. The first movie, which was released in 2013, was directed by Guillermo del Toro.
Now comes word that the movie has found its star. It’s been announced that John Boyega, who was most recently seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has been locked in for the lead role in the sequel. And who is he playing? The son of Idris Elba‘s fan-favorite character.

‘Pacific Rim 2’ Back On With ‘Daredevil’ Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight Directing
Back in September, Universal and Legendary Pictures took Pacific Rim 2 off its release schedule of August 4, 2017 and gave its projected August 4, 2017 opening date to Pitch Perfect 3. Guillermo Del Toro, who directed the original that grossed $411 million worldwide in the summer of 2013, remained optimistic that the project would still be moving forward, submitting a script and budget to the studios a month after the sequel was put on hold.
Deadline is now reporting that the project is no longer on the development back burner, but it now has a different director. Del Toro has been replaced by Steven S. DeKnight.
