Last time on Gotham, Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monoghan) encouraged mayhem in the city as the lights went out and the crazies followed. He went after Bruce (David Mazouz), taking him to a bloody carnival. Bruce managed to get in a bunch of punches, and then Jim (Ben McKenzie) punched his face off, literally. Bruce vowed, “I will not kill,” because he’s Batman. Jim’s Uncle Frank (James Remar) was in the Court of Owls, who were training the doppelgänger. After toying with his love the entire episode, Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) shot Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and pushed him into the harbor.

Spoilers for tonight’s episode of Gotham below.

Last week on The Strain, we flashback to Abraham Setrakian’s (David Bradley) grandmother telling the story of Sardu the giant, and how he became The Master (gross!). It shows the origin of the cane. Present-day Setrakian is captured by the Ancients, whom Gus (Miguel Gomez) has joined. The “Occido Lumen” is mentioned as an ancient book that might hold the secret to killing The Master (Robin Atkin Downes, Robert Maillet), since sunlight didn’t work. Eichorst (Richard Sammel) gives Kelly (Natalie Brown) back her mental faculties and a bunch of child vampires to command (poor blind children!).

I’m terrible at watching TV shows. Just awful. New ones often come around that I really want to check out, and before I know it multiple seasons have come and gone. Seriously—it feels like time travel at times.

Being a huge fan of pirates (I even enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean movies most people aren’t so fond of), Black Sails on Starz was one such show that immediately piqued my attention but got away from me. This is thanks in part to its fairly brief maiden voyage (season one is only eight episodes). But thankfully I was able to check it out on Blu-ray, and with season two having just kicked off recently, I’m happy to finally be on board.

Before we get to the Gotham 1.6 “Spirit of the Goat” review, let’s recap, shall we?

Spoilers ahead!!

Previously on Gotham: Is Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) a good guy or a bad one? He starts out with all these ideals. He didn’t have to choose Gotham, he wanted to make a difference. Poor Jim! Saddled with morally ambiguous partner, Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), Jim got more than he bargained for. He’s been hung upside-down from a meat hook, while investigating Bruce Wayne’s (David Mazouz) parents’ murder, befriending the boy in the process. He fake killed Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), who is back causing complications galore. His girl Barbara (Erin Richards) is being warned about him by her ex-lesbian lover, Montoya (Victoria Cartagena), with whom he works. He saved future Catwoman (Camryn Bicondova) from a child trafficking ring. Jim and Harvey stop a balloon vigilante and a deadly bone-crumbling drug on the street.
