Two trips to the sewers and it was pretty much over for the Platinum Dunes reboot of the ’80s cult favorite heroes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
But out of the ooze of failure comes another reboot. Reports confirm that Paramount is working on a relaunch for the franchise, with a film that would be penned by Bad Words writer Andrew Dodge. More on the story below.
If any of you are like me, you grew up watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, playing with the brand’s action figures, and reading the comics. But have you ever wondered what it was like for the creators of TMNT — or any other popular franchise for that matter — to hit it big in the comic book industry? What kind of stories do these guys have to tell from behind the scenes?
In Drawing Blood — a graphic novel written by one of TMNT‘s co-creators, Kevin Eastman, and that is currently running on Kickstarter — you’ll get to learn about some of these true stories, only set in a fictionalized world. Joined by comic creators David Avallone and Ben Bishop, Eastman’s Kickstarter for Drawing Blood has passed its goal of $75,000, and with only has a few days left, is now reach for some awesome stretch goals!
I was able to chat with both Avallone and Bishop about the project, and am excited to share their experiences with all of you! Check out the interview here below, along with their video for Drawing Blood!
I gave Jonathan Liebesman’s 2014 film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a pretty definitive thumbs-down:
“I wish someone had regarded this movie as something more than an opportunity to sell action figures and create product placement opportunities for Pizza Hut and Orange Crush. I wish someone involved would’ve given at least one shit – but of course we’re talking about the same people who churn out brain-dead Transformers movies filled with racist stereotypes and giant robots with wrecking balls for testicles.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows does something its predecessor didn’t. It tries. Is it successful? Not entirely, but at least Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes are making an effort to deliver an experience fans of Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman‘s beloved characters can appreciate.
To go along with the release of the second installment in the Michael Bay-produced reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, this Friday, CineFix has released a fitting episode of their “Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know“ YouTube series.
As always, the video offers various fun facts about the franchise you might not have known before. They also did the same thing for the first reboot movie a couple of years back, so as an added bonus there’s a second video with another seven things you might not have known to bring the grand total to 14 fun facts. Be sure to head below to watch both videos.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are coming back this Summer for an all-new action adventure that brings in some very familiar faces to those who are fans of the 1980s animated series. A new trailer has popped up for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, which you can watch here below.
We’ve been covering the film for quite some time, and this trailer may be the best of all as it features better looks at the new threats that the Turtles will face. Previous trailers have featured the heroes in the half shell fighting against the likes of Shredder’s newest creations, Bebop and Rocksteady. But now they also have to contend with Dimension X’s greatest warlord, Krang – who will be voiced by Brad Garrett.
