Back in May it was reported that Nicholas Winding Refn, the filmmaker behind movies like Valhalla Rising, Bronson, and Drive, was in talks to direct a horror movie titled The Bringing that would be based on the mysterious and disturbing death of a Canadian student named Elisa Lam.

Unfortunately Refn’s involvement in the project didn’t work out, and so a new director had to be found and hired by Sony Pictures. Horror movies are a dime a dozen, most of them being awful with a few sparkly gems here and there fans of the genre will search for like Indiana Jones hunting down lost artifacts. Because of this, horror projects in the earlier stages of development need a little something to stand out and attract attention. The Bringing is one of those projects.

Elisa Lam’s Mysterious Cecil Hotel Death To Become Horror Movie
  |  @   |

Mysterious deaths are not a new thing, obviously. But when said death occurs at a hotel with a history and comes complete with a very strange video of the deceased captured right before whatever it is that happened to them happened, well, that’s something that will garner lots of attention.

One example of this is Elisa Lam, a 21-year-old student from Canada who was visiting Los Angeles one year ago. Not long after arriving, Lam went missing, and eventually her body was discovered inside one of the rooftop water tanks of the Cecil Hotel—tanks which were difficult to access and were located in an area protected by a locked door and alarm system. Her death was ruled an accident, but it understandably remains a mystery thanks in part to a video released of Lam acting eerily in an elevator in the hotel.

Now this mystery has inspired a new horror movie project titled The Bringing, which has been acquired by Sony Pictures and Matt Tolmach Productions. Continue reading for more, and to see the video of Lam acting strange in the elevator and a news report about the mystery.
