Episode 04: Champagne With My Campaign

Hello! It’s Adam Frazier aka FamousMonster and it’s time for another transmission from Skull-Face Island. David Allen, Tim Grant and myself haven’t slept in days – we’re too busy watching the 25th Anniversary of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week. I mean seriously, how can you afford to sleep knowing there’s Grade-A programming like this being broadcast over the airwaves? Hey, speaking of sharks…

“Sometimes that shark looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And the thing about a shark is he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll’s eyes. When he comes at ya, he doesn’t even seem to be livin’… until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then… ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin’. The ocean turns red, and despite all the poundin’ and the hollerin’ those sharks come in and… they rip you to pieces.” — Quint, Jaws

The Campaign PosterThe Campaign
Directed by Jay Roach
Written by Chris Henchy, Shawn Harwell
Starring Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott
Warner Bros. Pictures
Rated R | 85 Minutes
Release Date: August 10, 2012

Written by Eastbound & Down‘s Shawn Harwell and Chris Henchy (The Other Guys), The Campaign is a delightful concoction of political commentary and buffoonish man-child shenanigans. The film, which follows two rival politicians who are trying to win an election, is the perfect project for director Jay Roach.

Roach, whose comedic film credits include Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Meet the Parents, has also directed HBO political dramas like Recount, which earned him two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Made for Television Movie, and Game Change about the 2008 McCain/Palin campaign, one of the most watched films in HBO history.

In The Campaign, long-term congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) is caught with his pants down before an upcoming election, entangled in an embarrassing, John Edwards-esque sex scandal that could potentially ruin his career. Cue a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs (John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd) who plot to manipulate a dummy candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district so they can building sweatshops and ‘insource’ low-wage Chinese workers to double profits.

SDCC 2012: The Campaign panel

One of the many surprises of the day on Saturday in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con was Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis making a surprise appearance at the Warner Bros. panel to answer some fan questions about their upcoming movie The Campaign.

Ferrell and Galifianakis gave an aspiring comedian some advise and then showed off some footage from the film. Everyone was excited by the footage, which was mostly just the standard trailer, with a little bit of new footage added in. Ferrell showed off that he can still work a crowd, and Galifianakis is just as funny. Everyone in the room had a good time during this surprise visit.

Check out the photos of the stars from this panel.

The Campaign

After helming a couple of decent comedies like Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Meet the Parents, director Jay Roach moved towards directing HBO’s political dramas like Recount and Game Change. Now, the director is combining all of that in The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis, and the first trailer for this politically charged comedy is now online.

We recently posted the political attack ads from both parties, but that was nothing when compared to how hysterical this trailer is. From catering to the most awkward groups and ritual snake biting to punching babies and having no sympathy after doing so, The Campaign is looking like it will be a hit comedy in a season that is surrounded by action blockbusters. You can check out the trailer below.

The Campaign

Since we have a hotly-contested Presidential race gearing up, there’s no better time for a comedy savagely thumbing its nose (and you think that would hurt) at American electoral politics, and The Campaign looks like a doozy.

Directed by Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, the Austin Powers trilogy) from a script written by Chris Henchy (The Other Guys) and Shawn Harwell (Eastbound and Down), the upcoming film stars Will Ferrell as Cam Brady, a charismatic North Carolina Democratic congressman running for reelection against his sweet-natured but clueless Republican opponent Marty Huggins, played by Zach Galifianakis.

The publicity machine at Warner Bros. is starting to slowly grind to life for The Campaign and today the studio has premiered a pair of faux political attack ads starring Ferrell and Galifianakis as well as releasing election banners and establishing Facebook pages for each of their characters.

You can check them all out here below.
