The Grey director Joe Carnahan and star Frank Grillo are set to re-team for a new action project The Raid, a remake of the 2011 action hit The Raid: Redemption.
The pair made the announcement in a video shared on Instagram, as well as a post on Twitter in which Carnahan also confirmed that Gareth Evans, the director of the original, has given his blessing and will be a producer on the remake.
Mark Millar, the comic book scribe who created the series the Kick-Ass movies were based on, revealed recently that he had discuss the possibility of a solo Hit-Girl movie with Welsh action filmmaker Gareth Evans (The Raid). Played by Chloë Grace Moretz in the 2010 original directed by Matthew Vaughn and its inferior 2013 sequel, Kick-Ass 2, Hit-Girl was by far the breakout character of the little superhero franchise that almost was.
The idea of making a spin-off with the foul-mouthed teenage vigilante was taken seriously by Millar and Evans briefly.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens already tops many critics most anticipated lists, and with good reason. But the latest news is giving us another reason to be excited for this very highly anticipated film.
If the reports are true, three of the principle actors from The Raid and The Raid 2: Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian (who played Mad Dog and Prakoso in the films), and Cecep Arif Rahman (who played “The Assassin” and had a fight scene towards the end of The Raid 2) have roles in the film, and could be involved in a much larger capacity. And if you have seen either of Gareth Evans’ films, that means the action sequences in J.J. Abrams‘ upcoming movie should be awesome. Hit the jump for the full report.

In The Raid 2: Berandal, Rama’s victory has attracted the attention of Jakarta’s most notorious gangsters. With his family at risk, Rama has only one choice to protect his wife and baby: he must go undercover to enter the criminal underworld and identify the corrupt politicians and police pulling the strings at the top.
Rama sheds his old identity and becomes Yuda, a violent offender who is sent to a Jakarta prison for his crimes. While there, he gains the confidence of Uco (Arifin Putra), the son of Bangun (Tio Pakusadewo) – a feared mob boss who runs crime in Jakarta. As Uco’s right-hand man, Yuda will risk his life to bring the corruption in the city to an end.
