The first Raid was such a punching good time that a sequel was quickly put into development. The Raid 2: Berandal is expected to be another action-packed film that is as subtle as the deadly weapons the characters carry.
With the film having finished principle photography, director Gareth Evans has been presenting a few clips to show audiences what they can be expecting from the sequel, and now the first trailer for The Raid 2 has appeared online. Hit the jump to check it out.
The Raid lived up to the promise of being one of the most thrilling actioners of 2012. Immediately after the film’s success at the Toronto Film Festival and Sundance, Sony Pictures Classic bought the rights to distribute, and when it finally opened in theaters it was a box office smash. Naturally a sequel, The Raid 2 (The Raid 2: Berandal in Indonesia; Berandal translates into Thug in English), was greenlit to continue the story of Rama (Iko Uwais), a rookie police officer and one of the few who survived an onslaught of drug dealers, criminals, and other degenerates in the tight spaces of an apartment complex.
Now production for the sequel has commenced. Gareth Evans, who returns as director for the sequel, has promised us that The Raid 2 will be a departure in many ways and that we won’t be seeing the same sort of action sequences we saw in the first film. With cameras already rolling, we are getting our first look at behind the scenes action of the sequel and a first still that confirms that the sequel will take place hours after the events of the first film.
Collider has provided the first look at the film, featuring returning star Uwais reprising his role as Rama. Check out the photos here below.
Now, while films like Shame and A Dangerous Method really tore up the fall festival circuit this year, one genre picture played as one of the biggest surprises this year. And now, it’s about to get remade.
THR is reporting that Screen Gems will remake the Toronto International Film Festival 2011 Midnight Madness award winner, The Raid. The film follows the story of a SWAT team that tries to make its way through a building ran by a mobster and a collection of dealers, thugs, and even the occasional martial arts master.
