Interview: Brandon Jerwa Kickstarting ‘Untold Tales of The Comic Industry’
  |

Recently, Kickstarter has seen many a project. The site has become nearly overcrowded with creative people putting out their truly unique ideas in varying levels of quality and originality. Some are more interesting that others, and when I came across Brandon Jerwa‘s project about shooting a documentary that focused on the creator’s side of the comic book industry, believe me, it caught my interest. It caught my interest so much so that we felt like we would be doing a disservice to him and his fellow creators as well as the Geeks of Doom readership if we didn’t try to shine some light on his truly amazing project.

Brandon Jerwa is a comic book writer with credits to his name like G.I. Joe, Xena/Army of Darkness, Battlestar Galactica, The Shield, and many more. He’s using his connections within the industry, and experience as a creator in the unique comic book business to bring to us an intriguing look into a side of the comic book world that we normally don’t see as fans.

Luckily, I had the chance to get in contact with Brandon and discuss some of the details about his upcoming Kickstarter project, when we can expect to see a final product, and who all is involved. The interview follows here below.

But, before we get to that, for your convenience, we’ve embed the trailer for the project below the interview. So, if you’re interested in the project and want to check out some more of the details not covered in the interview and possible throw out a donation, make sure to go here and here to do so.

Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Predators’ Puts Faces To Its Group Of Characters
  |  @   |

Not too long ago, word came out that Danny Trejo (Con Air, Desperado) was the first name to be cast in Predators — the new reboot directed by Nimród Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez and his Troublemaker Studios. That news was immediately followed up by a script review that filled us in on all of the dirty details, as well as the many cool and exciting characters that we would see battling to survive the vicious creatures in the movie (Read: Script Review Of Robert Rodriguez’s “˜Predators’ Reveals All Kinds Of Juicy Details; Our Dream Cast Shared!). With one swift blow, the majority of the actors who will be filling these excellent roles has now been revealed, and while they are not the part of the fantasy cast we put together, there’s not denying that it’s an interesting group.

The list of names includes Academy Award winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist, King Kong); Topher Grace (Spider-Man 3, That 70s Show) is currently in negotiations; Alice Braga (City of God, I Am Legend); Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (The 4400, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button); Walt Goggins (The Shield, Shanghai Noon); and former UFC star Oleg Taktarov (Bad Boys 2, 15 Minutes).

TV Review: ‘The Shield’ Series Finale
  |  @   |

By David Chen

The Shield
Series Finale
Starring Michael Chiklis, Walton Goggins, Catherine Dent, CCH Pounder, Jay Karnes, Laurie Holden
FX Network
Air date: November 25, 2008

After 88 episodes of groundbreaking, gritty television, The Shield is finally over. It was a crown masterwork of police procedural drama, utilizing such creative storytelling that viewers should feel blessed simply to have witnessed its unfolding. But if there’s been one flaw with this show, it’s that it’s always been just a little bit too in love with its main characters. Time and time again, we’ve seen Vic and his Strike Team worm their way out of every single legal conundrum and gang-related bear trap that has been thrown their way. This crew has done some pretty sick, twisted stuff over the past few years, and they had much to atone for leading into the finale. Creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan had plenty of opportunities to send some of these characters to jail or to kill them off, but he always seemed reluctant to do so. Not that we ever really wanted him to: It seems a warmed over observation, but part of the brilliance of The Shield was making you root for every single one of these characters. With season 7 being the show’s last, Ryan had nothing to lose anymore; he could deal with the characters and bring their arcs to a conclusion in whatever way he wanted to. The question after all these years of torture, corruption, and murder is, would Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) walk away? Or would he finally get caught?

With just one 90-minute-long episode left, I desperately wanted there to be a reckoning, some final closure for all the injustice that has been doled out, or at least some closure. To a huge extent, this series finale thoroughly delivered.

[WARNING: THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE FINAL EPISODE OF THE SHIELD].
