Darwyn Cooke comic book artist

Famed comic book artist Darwyn Cooke, best known for his work at DC Comics, died today after a battle with cancer, his family confirmed via a statement on his official Web site. He was 53.

Cooke’s wife Marsha revealed yesterday that the Canadian artist had been battling an “aggressive” form of cancer, and was receiving palliative care.

The Eisner Award-winning cartoonist began publishing his work in 1985, and worked in Canada for 15 years as a graphic and product designer as well as magazine art director before landing a job in the early 1990s at Warner Bros. Animation under animator Bruce Timm. At WB, he worked as a storyboard artist for the hit animated TV show Batman: The Animated Series as well as on Superman: The Animated Series, and also animated the main titles for Batman Beyond.

Google Doodle Will Eisner

Today when you visit Google’s homepage the usual Google logo has been replaced with a Will Eisner-inspired doodle to celebrate his birthday. Click on the logo and you’ll find a treasure trove of information about the iconic comic book creator.

Eisner was born on March 6, 1917 and died back in 2005. He is perhaps best known for the character The Spirit, which did, for better or for worse, get the feature film treatment, but he also crafted such classic characters as John Law, Sheena: Queen of the Jungle, Black Hawk, Uncle Sam, and countless others.

Eisner is known as the father of the graphic novel and he was one of the founding creators of the actual comic book bringing the art form from Sunday newspapers into what we know as comic books today.

You Can Own Scarlett Johansson’s … Tissue?

The SpiritOkay so on my daily trolling around ebay, I came across this odd auction from The Tonight Show

Now, Jay Leno has not been funny since…well forever but on occasion he has some really great guests and while Scarlett Johansson is not “great,” she is hot and that does it for me and about 85 percent of the male population. During her interview with Jay on The Tonight Show, she claimed she got a cold from her Spirit co-star Samuel L. Jackson and then proceeded to blow her nose on a tissue. Well, now Leno, the thinker that he is, is auctioning the tissue on eBay for U.S. Harvest, a charity of ms. Johansson’s choosing.

Said tissue is now up to $4,000, which brings me to two conclusions …

Second Trailer For Frank Miller’s ‘Spirit’

The Movie God   |  @   |

The SpiritAfter the first trailer for Frank Miller‘s The Spirit caused a tidal wave of negativity toward the film, it wasn’t likely that anything could save it. Even so, a second trailer has been released for whoever may be interested in checking it out.

Check out the trailer here below.

I will admit, this trailer is far better than the last, but it’s still not good. If all dialogue was taken out, it may just have some positive attention going its way, but alas, there is dialogue and it is horrible to listen to. That paired with the fact that the hero isn’t badass or intimidating and the villain is not only not scary, he’s fairly laughable, which makes for some bad chances here. Oh, and now it also apparently looks as if the movie will be PG-13; not that I know whether this content was ever supposed to be R, but it was probably the only way I might take a peek at it.
