‘The Toxic Avenger’ Reboot To Be Written and Directed By Macon Blair
Back in 2010, Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink was going to direct a remake of The Toxic Avenger. In 2012 John Travolta was rumored to be up for a role, then in 2013 Arnold Schwarzenegger was in talks to star. In 2016, it was Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon being brought in to helm. The point being, we’ve been hearing about the remake for a while.
This past December Legendary Entertainment acquired the feature film rights to The Toxic Avenger and made it a priority. Now they’ve found the latest name to attempt to make the movie a reality, as Macon Blair has been hired to write and direct what’s now being called a reboot.

‘The Toxic Avenger’ Remake Grabs ‘Sausage Party’ Co-Director Conrad Vernon
We’ve been hearing about a remake of the 1984 cult classic The Toxic Avenger for a number of years now. But while the project has had troubles getting into production, it is still in the works. And now comes word that a new director has been hired to make the movie.
It’s being reported that Conrad Vernon has signed on to helm the remake, his first live-action gig. Vernon recently co-directed the R-rated animated comedy Sausage Party starring and co-written by Seth Rogen. Before that he directed the not at all R-rated animated features Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Vernon has also done a bunch of voice acting, including multiple roles in Sausage Party, Mason in the Madagascar movies and shorts, and most notably, Gingerbread Man in the Shrek movies and shorts.

Arnold Schwarzenegger In Talks To Star In ‘The Toxic Avenger’ Remake

Variety is reporting that Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to star in a remake of Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz’s 1984 cult classic, The Toxic Avenger.
For those unfamiliar with Troma Entertainment’s slice of low-budget sleaze-cheese, The Toxic Avenger tells the story of Melvin Ferd III, a 98-pound weakling who works as a janitor at a health club in Tromaville, New Jersey. A gang of beefcake bullies toss the denim-clad poindexter into a drum of toxic waste, transforming him into a hideously deformed monster of superhuman size and strength: the Toxic Avenger!

John Travolta Rumored To Join ‘The Toxic Avenger’
The Toxic Avenger is one of those nasty, brutally violent, sex-filled films that you can’t help but watch. Sure enough with any film that has a cult following as large as it has, there will be studio heads looking to reboot the film.
Steve Pink has been attached to direct the film for some time now and although things looked like they haven’t been progressing as quickly as some would have liked, this latest bit of casting rumors should give it the push it needs to head into production. The rumor that is going around is that John Travolta has been approached to appear in the reboot of The Toxic Avenger.

‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ Director Steve Pink To Deliver ‘Toxic Avenger’ Remake
Many of you may not even have any interest in a remake of the campy 1984 cult classic, The Toxic Avenger. But for those of you who are, a director has been signed and sealed.
Steve Pink, who is best known for his work directing the hit comedy, Hot Tub Time Machine, has signed on to helm the project, as well as write the script along with Daniel C. Mitchell. Of the announcement, Pink stated that “The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country–wait, that’s not big enough–what the WORLD needs right now!”
