Skull-Face Island Movie Podcast presented by Geeks Of Doom
Episode 02: Safety Not Guaranteed

Hello! It’s Adam Frazier aka FamousMonster and welcome to Skull-Face Island! It’s been a busy week here on the island. Tim Grant, David Allen, and myself are currently representing the United States in the 20th Annual Skull-Face Island Olympic Games.

Forget that ‘every four years‘ noise, we compete every summer – yeah, put that on your Subway sandwich, Michael Phelps. Of course, we only have about five events and our only competition is a bunch of blood-thirsty (but fun-loving) natives and an all-Dinosaur Dream Team – but still, it’s serious business.

If you missed our first transmission, let me explain how this works. In the year 1991, US Flight 1313 experienced a mysterious, magnetic anomaly somewhere over the South Pacific. Engines failed, pilots cursed and prayed to their Gods, and three boys (that’s us!) washed ashore on Skull-Face Island, which of course is an ISLAND in the SHAPE of a SKULL! How cool is that!?

Movie Review: The Watch

The Watch PosterThe Watch
Directed by Akiva Schaffer
Written by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg
Starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Richard Ayoade, Rosemarie DeWitt
20th Century Fox
Rated R | 98 Minutes
Release Date: July 27, 2012

Written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and directed by Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod), The Watch is a quasi-comedic, exceedingly raunchy remix of Ghostbusters, Men in Black, and Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block.

In the small town of Glenview, Ohio, CostCo Manager Evan Trautwig (Ben Stiller) forms a neighborhood watch after a co-worker is violently murdered. Wearing a “No More Murders” t-shirt, Trautwig recruits Bob Finnerty (Vince Vaughn), an over-protective father who uses the watch as an excuse to spy on his teenage daughter’s dating life.

Joining them are Franklin (Jonah Hill), a high school dropout with emotional issues who signs up after being rejected by the police department, and Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade), an awkward, sex-crazed young man looking to live out an Asian housewife fantasy.

The neighborhood watch patrols the suburbs of Ohio and keeps the streets safe from rambunctious skateboarding teenagers while attempting to crack the case of the CostCo killer. As you’ve no doubt seen (ad nauseam) from the trailers, the culprit is a nasty extraterrestrial with a knack for skinning its victims (yes, like the Predator). Now, with their powers combined, the watch must stop this otherworldly foe before it tears the suburbs limb-from-limb.

The Watch

Comedies provide some great counter flicks in a summer that is generally filled with action blockbusters. And Fox will be bringing one of those comdies to us with Akiva Schaffer‘s The Watch. Originally titled Neighborhood Watch, The Watch centers on a group of a newly founded neighborhood watch group (played by Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade) who accidentally find out that there are plans for an alien invasion. Now a new trailer has arrived to help us get familiar with the neighborhood watch group. Check out the new trailer below.

There is a lot of new and hilarious footage to see from this trailer. I especially like how different the members of the neighborhood watch group are when they introduce themselves to each other. Ayoade’s expectations from this group is the most hilarious. I can’t believe I was actually hesitant to watch this film at first. Now the more I see of it, the more I want to watch it.

The Watch

Fox has released a toned-down trailer for The Watch. Akiva Schaffer‘s new sci-fi comedy, formerly known as Neighborhood Watch, stars Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller, and Richard Ayoade as a group of local neighborhood watchmen who stumble across an alien plot to destroy the world. Although the trailer tones it down, it is definitely better than the red-band trailer that was released earlier this year.

You can check out the new trailer below.

We also get a better look at the aliens the neighborhood watch group will be facing in the movie. Vaughn debuted the new trailer on Conan last week.
