Holiday Geek Gift Guide 2017: Blu-ray and DVD Edition
  |

Ladies and gentlemen, that sainted time of year is once again upon us. Stuffed to the eyeballs with carbohydrate-loaded food, we suck in our guts, put on our finest ensemble of pajama pants and Crocs, and venture out to the nearest mall/shopping center/big box retailer/gas station/roadside flea market to secure gifts for the ones we love. Meanwhile, the ones we tolerate will simply have to suffice with “A Tree Has Been Planted In Your Name” certificates and that fruitcake your grandfather accidentally sat on during Sunday dinner.

As we do every time around this time, Geeks Of Doom has provided for you a comprehensive guide to the finest films and TV series released to DVD and Blu-ray in 2017 (if you’re holding out for laserdisc or Betamax editions of these titles, I both pity and respect you) for you and yours to enjoy for generations to come.

Check out this year’s Holiday Geek Gift Guide: Blu-ray & DVD Edition

‘Aliens,’ ‘Twister’ Actor Bill Paxton Has Died
  |  @   |

Bill Paxton, the ultimate character actor, a handsome charmer who could easily be a leading man, but was most known for his hilarious film-stealing scenes in supporting roles throughout his 40-plus year career, has died. The actor who perhaps is best known for his defeated exclamation, “Game Over man, Game Over!” in James Cameron’s 1986 action sequel Aliens died yesterday from complications from surgery. He was 61. Paxton is survived by his second wife and two children.

Valentine’s Day 2016: 9 Love Stories That Won Best Picture
  |  @   |

With it being Valentine’s Day weekend, and all the buzz of the Oscars coming up later this month, it seemed like a perfect time for a COMBO LIST! When most think of Best Picture winners, you think sprawling historical epics like Gone With the Wind (1939), Lawrence of Arabia (1962) or Ben Hur (1959). War is a good place to find Oscar champions as well, such as Patton (1970), Schindler’s List (1993), and Bridge on the River Kwai (1957). But what about love? What about a sweeping romance? With that idea, I’ve scoured the 87 winners of the Best Picture Oscar and found the nine best love stories. Why nine? Because ten is what you were expecting, and with love being the theme, love should be unexpected and spontaneous… and also I could only really think of these 9. Any of these movies would be great to pop open a bottle of wine, dim the lights, and cuddle up with your significant other.

Check out the 9 choices below.

Everyone knew Star Wars: The Force Awakens would be a monster, and it has not disappointed. In fact, it might just be even bigger than anticipated…if you can believe that. After an explosive arrival saw it shatter a bunch of records, the movie has officially slipped past James Cameron’s Avatar to become the new all-time domestic box office champ.

It took just 20 freakin’ days.
