The future is here! Or maybe it isn’t. Guys, seriously, is the future here or not?
A major announcement shook the pillars of the Interweb recently. HUVr Tech announced through a new celebrity-fueled campaign that they have a fully functional hoverboard. No seriously. A fucking hoverboard! Like, Back To The Future II-style hoverboard.
Now the bad news…it’s all apparently been an elaborate prank by Funny Or Die. Continue reading for more.
We’ve seen glimpses of the possibility of a real working hoverboard, the floating skateboard made famous in Back to the Future II, in the past, but nothing that someone could actually get on and ride.
Yesterday a video was uploaded by a company called HUVr, which claims to show the first real-deal working hoverboard ever created. It begins with Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd showing up in a DeLorean (as he tends to do) and handing off the high-tech board to skateboarding legend Tony Hawk before Hawk and other celebrities talk about being the first to experience something no one thought they’d ever get to experience.
At first glance and without any other knowledge the video might just blow your mind. But there’s more going on here than first meets the eye. Click on over to the other side to see the video.

Waiting For Lightning is a documentary that pursues the crusade of pro skater Danny Way as he aims to accomplish one of the most insane stunts of all time: to jump the Great Wall of China on a skateboard using the biggest ramp ever constructed. As the movie heads towards the inevitable climactic few seconds of the jump, the narrative follows the trials and ordeals of Way from childhood to adulthood, as well as the immediate lead up and planning for the Great Wall stunt.
While the focus of the documentary leads into the China jump, for all intents and purposes, Waiting For Lightning is a biography. It documents how Danny Way rose into pro skateboarding at such a young age, propelling from a difficult and tumultuous home upbringing, dealing with the death of his father, and then the loss of his stepfather through divorce. As his mother fell into a pattern of self-medicating with drug use, and abusive relationships; Danny escaped into skating, becoming one of the most memorable pro skaters of all time.
