“The pain, I can assure you, will be exquisite. As for our deaths, there is nothing to fear. Our names will be written on a thousand walls. Our crimes told and retold by our faithful believers. We shall die together in front of their very eyes and give them something to be haunted by. Come with me and be immortal.”
Based on author Clive Barker‘s short story, The Forbidden, 1992’s Candyman is the definitive horror film of the 1990s. Written and directed by British filmmaker Bernard Rose (Immortal Beloved), the film stars Virginia Madsen (Dune, Sideways) as Helen Lyle, a Chicago graduate student who is researching urban legends. She stumbles upon a local legend, the Candyman (Tony Todd), a hook-wielding phantom who haunts the city’s notorious Cabrini-Green housing project.
Seeing Bernard Rose’s 1992 film Candyman is an essential movie-viewing experience. And like many of the classic horror films that came out during that time, it has gotten some sort of remake treatment. But the interesting thing about Candyman was that it was a film ahead of its time. Not only was it a horror, it also addressed socioeconomic issues. A true rarity. So it should be no surprise that a remake could be in the works. Not only that, but it appears that Jordan Peele will produce and could be tapped to direct. More on the story below.

“Once, in a time before time, God breathed life into the universe. And the light gave birth to Angels. And the earth gave birth to Man. And the fire gave birth to the Djinn, creatures condemned to dwell in the void between the worlds. One who wakes a Djinn will be given three wishes. Upon the granting of the third, the unholy legions of the Djinn will be freed to rule the earth. Fear one thing in all there is… fear the Djinn.”
In the Wishmaster series, an evil djinn grants three wishes to the person who releases him, fulfilling a prophecy that will unleash his fellow djinn upon the earth and plunge the world into eternal damnation. For the first time, the horror-fantasy series will be available on Blu-ray on March 28, 2017, from Lionsgate’s Vestron Video Collector’s Series label. The three-disc set includes all four films, restored and remastered, plus never-before-seen special features.
In the upcoming Season 2 of The Flash, the lead villain will be Zoom, a masked “speed demon” and the voice behind the man in the mask will be none other than Tony Todd, according to Variety.
Todd is a menacing human being in stature alone. The man is a hulking 6’5″, but it’s not his frame that’s his most terrifying feature. Anyone who has seen Candyman (1992) or the films of The Final Destination franchise knows, the man has maybe the scariest voice in the world. Seriously, when I met him at a horror convention he called a friend of mine “Helen” (Virginia Madsen’s character in Candyman) and I freaked out!
