“You are food.” The very first line of Trollhunters provides the motive for the entire novel. Humans are historically food for trolls, but most have evolved to an animal diet, in their natural habitat under bridges and underground. Some, however, still had the taste for human parts.

In 1969, at the height of the Milk Carton epidemic, the Sturges brothers were riding their bikes, soon to be headed home. Then Jack and his younger brother Jim had to be home before dark. It was a dangerous time with all the missing children. They were racing their bikes and all of a sudden, Jack was gone, joining the Milk Carton kids. Jim was never the same.

The seemingly busiest man in Hollywood just keeps getting busier. It’s being reported that Guillermo del Toro will be writing and directing an animated film for DreamWorks titled Trollhunters.

The movie will be based on a short story that the filmmaker conceived right around the time that he sold his vampire book series The Strain, which he wrote with Chuck Hogan. We first heard that this project was on the way last year when it was announced that del Toro would be heading a new production label with Disney called Double Dare You.

Del Toro’s involvement in animated films came when he recognized the constant evolution of animated films and their importance, leading him to get more involved. He’s even got his own office at DreamWorks Animation and will be serving as a executive producer and consultant on multiple upcoming projects, including Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom, Megamind, and Shrek spin-off, Puss in Boots.

Double Dare You

Walt Disney Studios made some big announcements yesterday at their D23 Expo. One of which is the reveal that they have entered into a collaboration with none other than visual genius Guillermo del Toro, and will be launching a special new production label called Double Dare You. The goal for this new label: create a slew of new animated feature films for people of all ages, that are a lot more on the dark and scary side of things. The projects will all be overseen and produced by del Toro — who originally came up with the concept and design of the label — with some even being directed by him personally.

This is fantastic news for fans of animated movies. Guillermo del Toro is the absolute king of visually sensational cinema, and to have his hand and his style going into some darker animated films could be truly wonderful. It would be expected that the movies will have something of a Monster House feel to them.
