Watch Now: The Best Parts of the ‘Underworld’ Trilogy In Three Minutes

With the recent release of the fourth installment, Awakening, the Underworld movies have proved to be one of those franchises that refuses to die as long as the last movie makes enough money to barely justify a sequel — the same criteria that has also kept the Resident Evil movies going long past their expiration date.

The clever people over at io9 have assembled the better parts of the first three films in the series – Underworld (2003), Underworld: Evolution (2006), and the prequel Underworld: Rise of the Lycans – into a three minute video.

New Trailer For ‘Underworld: Awakening’ Arrives

Everyone and their mother is hunting for a franchise to keep alive, sucking from it as much cash as humanly possible. The latest franchise getting a new entry? Underworld.

Underworld: Awakening finds the cast and crew returning to the battle between vampires and lycans, this time, with something much bigger at stake. The only hybrid child ever conceived has been released, and the latter crew is looking to take it down, with the former hoping to protect it.

Watch Now: ‘Underworld: Awakening’ Trailer

The first trailer for Underworld: Awakening, the fourth film in the action-horror franchise that started in 2003, has been released online. You can watch an embedded trailer below this article.

The movie is directed by the team of Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein, Swedish filmmakers who made their directorial debut on the little-seen 2010 thriller Shelter starring Julianne Moore after working primarily in television in their native country for close to a decade. Len Wiseman, the director of the original Underworld and its 2006 sequel Underworld: Evolution (and currently directing the Total Recall remake), is on board as a producer. The screenplay was written by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski, who also has numerous comic book (Amazing Spider-Man) and film (Ninja Assassin, Thor, Changeling) writing credits to his name.

SDCC 2011: ‘Underworld: Awakening’ Panel Brings The Return Of Kate Beckinsale

What’s that? You had no idea they were making another Underworld movie? Well, then””allow me to inform you that yes, indeed, there is a new Underworld movie on the way, and it is titled Underworld: Awakening. What you might also not know, is that star of the first two installments, Kate Beckinsale, is back in tight leather outfits for your fanboy amusement.

The panel””which consisted of directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein, stars Beckinsale, Michael Ealy, and Theo James, and producer and director of the first two movies, Len Wiseman“”didn’t bring a ton to the table as they’re only about half–way through filming it, but they did bring some footage to check out.
