Spike VGAs 2012: ‘The Phantom Pain’ Trailer; Is It Really ‘Metal Gear Solid 5’?
  |  @   |

A strange cinematic trailer was shown at the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards for a game called The Phantom Pain. No one had ever heard of it, but it had a distinct Hideo Kojima feel to it, leading many to believe that the game is actually Metal Gear Solid V.

Back in September we saw a 14-minute gameplay demo for a game described as being a Metal Gear Solid V prologue titled Ground Zeroes, so it was assumed that MGSV was not too far behind.

Check out the trailer for The Phantom Pain below, and share whether you think it’s a new Metal Gear Solid or not.

Spike VGAs 2012: ‘Dark Souls 2’ Cinematic Trailer
  |  @   |

The 10th annual Spike Video Game Awards ceremony was held last night, and as always, gamers were excited to see if any huge new games would be announced. We went in hoping for another epic announcement along the same lines as Bethesda’s reveal of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim a couple of years back, maybe the rumored Fallout 4 or something from the recently confirmed Dragon Age III, but instead we got a nightmare resurrected.

Many people, myself included, were tormented by the relentlessly difficult game Dark Souls, haunting many of our dreams. But we sucked it up and fought through to obtain the invisible trophy you get when defeating such a game. Mine’s above the fireplace. Developer From Software, however, has decided they don’t want us to recover much, announcing Dark Souls II at the VGAs.

You can see the first cinematic trailer for the game below.

2010 Spike TV Video Game Awards: Who Won?
  |

Spike TV’s Video Game Awards were this weekend. The big winner overall, taking home many awards including Game of the Year, was Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption. Now Red Dead was a good game, don’t get me wrong, but game of the year? It would probably make my top five, but definitely not my number one.

Also causing me to make a confused face was the Most Anticipated Game winner, Portal 2. Really? Portal 2 is the most anticipated game coming out? Not Gears of War 3 or Mass Effect 3 or Deus Ex: Human Evolution? All of which I’m looking forward to infinitely more than Portal 2. Oh and speaking of infinite, what about BioShock Infinite? I know it doesn’t come out for a while but that should win most anticipated until it does.

Making me smile however was an award going to the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. Check the full list below and see if you agree with the winners. What was your game of the year? Mine could quite possible be Halo: Reach, but I’ll have to think it over.

‘Thor: God of Thunder’ Video Game Trailer
  |

With each new big Marvel movie, there is a game based on that movie, and it looks like the Marvel’s Thor will be no different. The video game Thor: God of Thunder will be released on May 3, 2010 Now both of the games based on the Iron Man movies looked great, but they played terribly. Looking at this trailer, the Thor game does not seem to follow that pattern. The look of the game is not great, though.

Take a look at the trailer below, which debuted this weekend at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards. Or even look at the picture above, graphically it looks a generation behind. The game appears to be a hack and slash type game, which could really draw Thor fans in. Who wouldn’t want to beat the crap out of things with Thor’s hammer? Even if you don’t look great while doing it.

Cinematic Trailer For ‘Batman: Arkham City’ Released
  |  @   |

As you may have been able to tell, a lot of fantastic premiers were delivered at the 2010 Spike TV Video Game Awards.

Adding to that list, the first cinematic trailer for Batman: Arkham City was debuted to excited fans of its predecessor, Batman: Arkham Asylum.

All of these world premiere trailers are of the cinematic variety, which can be bittersweet. Fans want to see what the actual gameplay looks like, naturally, but a really well-done cinematic can really do a great job building anticipation, and Batman really delivered in theirs.

The trailer shows off some traditional Batman action, doing his stealthy thing while those in pursuit of him are taken by surprise. It also introduces a new villain, a one Doctor Hugo Strange, who sounds like he might be voiced by Christopher Lee…though I’m not 100% sure.

Be sure to click on over to the other side to watch the cinematic trailer for Batman: Arkham City now!
