2018 WGA Awards Winners: ‘Get Out’, ‘Call Me By Your Name’

The WGA Awards is a big win for Jordan Peele‘s Get Out. The first film for the new director has been making waves this award season, having earned nominations from the DGA, PGA, and SAG, plus the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. Now, Peele has been honored with a Writer’s Guild award for Original Screenplay for his screenplay for Get Out.

Meanwhile, Call Me By Your Name also earned top honors for Best Adaptive Screenplay, while The Handmaiden’s Tale, Big Little Lies, and Veep took home TV awards. Check out more about the winners here below.

2018 WGA Awards: ‘Logan,’ ‘The Big Sick,’ ‘Get Out,’ and ‘Molly’s Game’ Nominated

As with all Guilds and Societies in the film industry, the nominations are an indicator of which films are likely to get Academy Award nominations. Get Out, The Shape of Water, Call Me by Your Name, Lady Bird, and The Disaster Artist are among the films that are getting recognition for their performances, writing, and production. All are likely to get more nominations as we get closer to the Academy Awards announcing their own nominations.

Now the nominations for the 2018 WGA Awards have been announced, and they include a couple of surprises. This year, nominations went to films like The Big Sick, Get Out, and The Shape of Water for original screenplay, while Logan, The Disaster Artist, and Molly’s Game get nominated for adapted screenplay. ‘Deadpool,’ ‘Arrival,’ ‘Moonlight,’ ‘La La Land’ Score WGA Nominations

Specific guild nominations are very telling of what films and television shows are up for major awards. Take SAG (Screen Actors Guild). A lot of the times the nominations from those awards are a precursor to which actors will most likely be nominated for Academy Awards. That is really no different from the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

Today, WGA have announced their Writers Guild Awards nominees for the best in original and adaptive screenplay. You may recognize a few like Arrival or La La Land, heard of their critical acclaim like Moonlight, and may be even surprised by a few like Deadpool. That’s right, Deadpool got a nomination. With 2014 already behind us, critics and many others (including some of your favorite writers on the GoD staff) have already weighed in on what they felt were the top films of the year. Now, it’s time to recognize those films.

The Writers Guild Of America (WGA) has just announced their nominations for the best screenplays in the original, adapted, and documentary categories. Oftentimes, these nominations (and the winners) are a precursor to who may be nominated for Academy Awards – with the exception of Whiplash, but more on that later.
