One of the highlights of NY Wintercon 2016 at Resorts World Casino in Queens last weekend were, in fact, the queens themselves — the scream queens, that is. The convention honored and celebrated the best in science fiction and fantasy and amongst the guests was the Queen of Horror and a legend in the business, Adrienne Barbeau. Barbeau has spent the better part of 40 years in TV and films and many of those years were spent in the horror and sci-fi genre in classics like The Fog, Escape From New York, Swamp Thing, and Creepshow. I caught up with her at her at the convention, where I was able to snag a short interview one with my favorite scream queens.
The Resorts World Casino NYC in Queens hosted this year’s NY Wintercon, featuring science fiction, fantasy, and comic book properties. One of the highlights of Day 1 on Saturday was the panel featuring the most popular sci-fi franchise ever, Star Wars.
Starting off the day on the main stage was Chewbacca himself, Peter Mayhew, who was joined by a squadron of rebel pilots including Biggs Darklighter (Garrick Hagon), Nien Numb (Mike Quinn), and Red 4 (Jack Klaff).

Celebrating the best in science fiction and fantasy, NY Wintercon crash landed at the Resorts World Casino NYC in Queens this past weekend. The convention played host to plenty of guests, tons of cosplayers, and more comics and merchandise than you look can flip through. Day 1 on Saturday saw a main stage panel for possibly the most popular TV show going on today, AMC’s The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead panel featured Khary Payton and Austin Amelio. Payton joined the cast for Season 7, which is currently underway, to play King Ezekiel, who runs The Kingdom, another “utopian” community in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of TWD. Payton talked about his transition from 15 years of voiceover work to working on the hit television series.
NY WinterCon celebrates the best in sci-fi and fantasy and rolled this weekend into the Resorts World New York, located close to JFK Airport. The main attractions are the 35th anniversary reunion of Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, as well as reunions for The Warriors and the pilots of Star Wars. After a super fun panel, I got the pleasure to speak with Wez himself, Vernon G. Wells, over by his autograph table.

More than anything though, this weekend is about the fans, who were out by the bunches today, meeting and greeting their heroes and dressed in some of the most elaborate cosplay I’ve ever seen.
