It appears that there are two ways to kill a zombie movie, an over inflated budget and production delays. I’m sure there are more ways to do it, but it looks like those two things were the bullet to the head for World War Z 2.
The sequel, which was supposed to bring back Brad Pitt and be directed by David Fincher, has been cancelled by Paramount Pictures. More on the report below.
Back in August of last year, there was a report that David Fincher was in talks to direct the tentatively titled World War Z 2. Then in February Paramount pulled the sequel off its release schedule because the film never actually went into production. Just after that, it was reported that Fincher was still interested in the project.
Now Fincher is reportedly getting closer to inking a deal that would have him direct the zombie thriller, reuniting him with Brad Pitt once again. Trouble is, even if he does end up directing, the film still needs a greenlight. More on the story below.
One of the major reasons why Paramount was forced to pull World War Z 2off its release schedule, was because the film never went into production in the first place. The sequel to the sleeper hit could never lock down a director, thus stalling the film, which eventually led up to what happened earlier this week.
After director J.A. Bayona departed from the film, Se7en, Fight Club, and Gone Girl director David Fincher was named as a possible replacement. He’s worked with Brad Pitt twice before, so the idea makes plenty of sense. Well, it looks like Fincher is still very much interested in the gig. Find out more on the story below.
A major studio changing a scheduled release is common practice within the industry. But when it comes to pulling a major tentpole sequel off the schedule, that is something to worry about.
A new report confirms Paramount has pulled World War Z 2 and Friday the 13th of their scheduled release, with the latter later reported to be shut down completely. Both films were a part of Michael Bay‘s Platinum Dunes production company. However, they have announced a release date for Darren Aronofsky‘s mother!, starring Jennifer Lawrence. More on the story below.
From the news you were least expecting to read this week department, it’s being reported that two-time Academy Award nominee David Fincher is in talks to direct the zombie blockbuster sequel World War Z 2.
The original starred and was produced by Brad Pitt, who is set to return for the sequel. Pitt has worked with Fincher three times in the past (Seven, Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), which led him to reach out to Fincher after previously attached director J.A. Bayona departed in order to direct the Jurassic World sequel. The report states that it’s Pitt, Paramount, and Skydance, who are talking to Fincher about taking the job.
