New ‘Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil’ Video Clips, Synopsis Released
  |  @   |

We the Geeks of Doom are all about the upcoming horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. As we’ve said before, the movie has Alan Tudyk, who was beloved as Wash on Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity. It also has Tyler Labine, who was fantastic on TV’s Reaper and also had an amusing cameo in Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Recently we shared with you a trailer for the movie that had found its way online (Read: See “˜Firefly’ Pilot Alan Tudyk And Tyler Labine In “˜Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’ Trailer), which is bloody and sorta NSFW, which means a hell of a lot of fun. Now, in anticipation for the flick’s debut next week at Sundance Film Festival, Collider has a trio of video clips from the movie.

Head on over to the other side to read the synopsis and watch the clips, but I must stress: if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you should watch that first. The new clips play better after seeing teases of the scenes in the trailer.

Kevin Smith’s Lengthy Explanation For ‘A Couple Of Dicks’ Title Change
  |  @   |

Not one person was happy when A Couple of Dicks — the first Kevin Smith directed movie that wasn’t also written by him — was forced to renovate itself with the new, family-friendly Cop Out title for marketing purposes. Smith was peppered from all angles, particularly on Twitter where he tries to answer as many fan questions as he can, and repeatedly clarified that it wasn’t up to him; it was up to Warner Brothers. He had been in an epic battle not too long ago when that movie’s backers wanted to drop the “porno” from his Zack and Miri Make a Porno, which he ended up (thankfully) winning.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly recently, Smith explained the whole ordeal in great detail and laced with sharp expletives in true Kevin Smith fashion. Said expletives were censored in the original article, but I’ve gone ahead and uncensored them, because let’s face it: it’s a lot more fun that way. That means there is a tiny language NSFW warning on this one, kiddies.

Click on over to the other side to read some of the juicy bits we’ve included from the whole dirty thing.

DVD Review: ‘Zack and Miri Make A Porno’ 2-Disc Edition
  |  @   |

Zack and Miri Make A Porno
2-Disc Edition
Directed by Kevin Smith
Starring Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Craig Robinson, Jason Mewes, Justin Long
Weinstein Company
Release Date: February 3, 2009

When it comes to Kevin Smith, I may be a little bit biased. Whether people love or hate his movies, I always seem to love them for one reason or the other. What can I say, the dude’s style and his sense of humor have always simply entertained the hell out of me and that is what it is.

Zack and Miri Make A Porno is the biggest movie for Kevin Smith so far. Instead of using his normal gang of actors, he used some of them and fused them together with a group of Judd Apatow’s people — not a bad idea, strategically.

The movie follows Zack Brown (Seth Rogen) and Miriam Linky (Elizabeth Banks), a pair of twenty-somethings who live together and who have known each other since childhood. Basically, the two are just old buddies — they joke with each other, insult each other playfully, and all is well this way. Unfortunately, times are tough and bills are coming faster than income is, so their water, heat, and electricity all get shut off. After a quintessentially painful, awkward, and depressing ten-year high school reunion, Zack and Miri sit at a bar to avoid their cold apartment and figure out how to fix everything. Their idea: make a porno movie. Their logic: anyone anywhere always wants to watch other people having sex. What they didn’t expect were the emotional repercussions of having sex with your best friend on camera for money.

Movie Review: Zack and Miri Make A Porno
  |

Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Directed by Kevin Smith
Starring Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Craig Robinson, Jason Mewes, Traci Lords
Rated R
Release date: October 31, 2008

Strip all of the porn-related material from Kevin Smith‘s latest vulgar and wordy gutbuster Zack and Miri Make a Porno and what you have is the sweetest comic romance I’ve seen in a long time and one of Smith’s most autobiographical films. I think when Smith attempted to “grow up” so to speak by making his first non-Askewniverse flick Jersey Girl he grew up too fast. In fact, he grew into the kind of director who came to Hollywood fresh out of film school with dreams of seeing his personal visions translated to the big screen and ended up making bland family comedies for Disney starring Rob Schneider. Jersey Girl was a fine film but Smith sacrificed a great deal of his signature voice in seeking out a box office friendly PG-13 rating. It took returning to his Red Bank stomping grounds for Clerks 2, the sequel Smith himself said would never happen, to get the comedic poet laureate his groove back.

Zack (Seth Rogen) lives in Monroeville, PA, with his longtime friend Miri (Elizabeth Banks) and works in a Starbucks knock-off coffee joint called Bean n’ Gone. The two have fallen on hard times with their water and power being cut off with no money coming in any time soon.

Box Office Buzz: ‘Zack and Miri’ Don’t Make A No. 1 Movie
  |  @   |

Nothing can stop the power of High School Musical 3: Senior Year, which again takes the top slot at the box office grabbing $15 million in its second week, out-earning newcomer Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

This Halloween weekend saw the debut of the Kevin Smith comedy Zack and Miri, starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as two broke desperate friends who resort to making a porn movie to earn money for their bills. Too bad Zack and Miri only managed to pull in $10.6 million, not nearly enough to push HSM 3 off the top.

Coming in at #3 is the horror sequel SAW V, also in its second week, coming in with $10.1 million this week. The Clint Eastwood drama starring Angelina Jolie, Changeling, which debuted with a limited-run last week, opened wide this weekend earning $9.4 million giving it the #4 slot.

Finishing up the Top 5 this week with $6 million was another newcomer, The Haunting of Molly Hartley, the horror feature about a girl with a horrible fate that awaits her when she turns 18.
