Would You Be Interested In Watching ‘Zombieland’ The TV Series?
  |  @   |

Did you know that ultra-popular zombie movie Zombieland was originally created as a television series that was picked up by CBS? Well, it was indeed, and it’s not completely out of the question that some day in the future it will try once again to find a home on your TV set.

Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick spoke to MTV recently and explained how things had come to be. In 2005, they crafted the story as a pilot episode and sold it to CBS, but it was eventually decided that it just wouldn’t work at a series…as you might imagine. Clearly, if this was ever going to happen, it would have to be on HBO or Showtime — maybe FX at the very minimum, but that wouldn’t be preferable.

Because Zombieland was such a huge hit, the writing duo are already well into writing a sequel to it. They’ve also proven themselves a talented team, and have been hired to write a sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and also the adaptation of popular comic Deadpool, which will star Ryan Reynolds.

‘Zombieland’ Writers Also Taking On ‘G.I. Joe’ Sequel
  |  @   |

The writing duo for popular Summer horror comedy Zombieland, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are apparently the men of the moment. Just this past Tuesday, it was confirmed that the pair would be taking on the writing duties for the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool adaptation, which seems like a perfect match. Now comes word via an IESB scoop that Reese and Wernick will also be taking on the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

If this news pans out, the hiring is definitely not that match made in heaven for the writers like Deadpool is. G.I. Joe won a lot of people over who were expecting it to be unwatchable, but it also remained unwatchable to many others. In any scenario, it is a much cheesier and action-heavy project than Zombieland was or Deadpool is likely to be. This leads one to believe that it could be a “paycheck” job for these gentleman, which is fair and deserved. One thing is for sure, though: if they can add a little Zombieland good-ness to G.I. Joe, it might just take a big step up on the entertainment levels.

‘Zombieland’ Writers To Take On Script Duties For ‘Deadpool’ Movie
  |  @   |

As one of the more popular anti-heroes of the comic book world, the announcement of a movie based on the Wade Wilson himself, Deadpool, was music to the ears of fans.

With promises of a faithful adaptation, the perfect-fitting Ryan Reynolds reprising his role from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the assurance that the severe mishandling of the character in Wolverine would be wiped clean, how could anyone not be excited? To add to all of this, a rumor that was first reported by CHUD in early December has now been confirmed by the trades: Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been hired on to pen the Deadpool script.

This is fantastic news to throw onto the pre-existing pile of positive ingredients that have been applied to the project. Zombieland was praised for its humor and well-placed sarcasm, which is what Wade Wilson is really all about. Nail his Merc with the Mouth persona and you nail the character while setting yourself up for a successful film.
