End scenes of Order of the Phoenix to get 3D treatment.
Select scenes of the IMAX version of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be digitally converted to IMAX 3D, according to an announcement made today by IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures.
The IMAX Corporation will use its proprietary 2D to 3D conversion technology, IMAX DMR, to transform approximately 20 minutes at the end of the film into 3D.
The previous installment of the series based on the books by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire opened on November 18, 2005, shattering numerous IMAX 2D box office records at the time and has grossed more than $20 million in IMAX theaters worldwide.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released in IMAX theaters and conventional theatres on July 13, 2007.

That’s beyond stupid. If you’re gonna do any of the movie in 3D do ALL of the movie in 3D. I won’t waste my time or money otherwise. Not to see 1/6th of a movie in 3d.

Have U ever thought it might be a solution to all the pirating going on? The 3D IMAX uses is not the BLUE and RED glasses. It is a whole new level of technology in the movie bizz. I think it deserves a looking into as I like to stay on top of new waves that sometimes can change the marketplace.

Meh … I dunno. Converted from 2D to 3D … I’d personally rather have them NOT do that to the final 20 minutes of the movie. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll make sure not to watch this in the IMAX when it comes out .. I’d rather see what the director intended instead of some cheesy wannabe 3D.

I’m really disappointed in this. I enjoyed seeing the last one in IMAX and had planned to do the same for this one. If this turns out to be true, there’s no way I’d waste my time. WTF are they thinking?

We would take the 2 hr drive to see it if the whole thing were in 3D, but not just for 20 mins. They should do the whole thing 3D or don’t mess with it at all.

I think it’s extremely cool that they’re doing the last 20 minutes in 3D. Because that probably means they just did the fight in the department, and I saw the movie at midnight last night and i’m sure that it would be incredible in 3D. I’m going to see it asap!

When I saw H.P. at Navy Pier Imax in Chicago, we were advised to remove our 3d glasses after the first 20 minutes. What gives? Considering the Imax price and $20 for parking…NOT WORTH IT!

Harry Potter in 3D what a rip off.
Only the first segment was in 3d , 12 minutes exactly, and the remaining majority of the film is the neck-wrenching-too-close-to-the-screen IMAX experience.
Such a big production. Waiting in line. Scrambling for a decent seat. Tons of announcements about how valuable the 3D glasses are and please don’t take them with you when you leave or the theft prevention devices will sound. In the event of a fire, please do not take your 3D glasses with you. Blah Blah. After the first scene, these blinking red remove-your-glasses warning on the screen. I figured that there would be at least a couple more 3D episodes like the quidditch match or something, but nothing.
Save your money. Go sit in the first row at a regular theater.
