After many rumors about his involvement, it looks like Brett Ratner is in final negotiations to direct the new cinematic version of your favorite barbarian, Conan, for studio tag team Nu-Image, Millennium Films, and Lionsgate.
If this project confirms Ratner, it will be added to his inexplicably heavy schedule along with Beverly Hills Cop 4, the God of War adaptation, his Hugh Hefner biopic, and God knows how many more Rush Hour movies.
The Conan script is currently being touched up by writers Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly based on the original story by Robert E. Howard. The hope is that they can have it out for some time in 2010.
All I can hope is that between Beverly Hills Cop 4 (which is likely to be first in line), Conan and the Hef movie, maybe they’ll kick this dude off God of War and make me just a little happy.

Although I’m all for more Conan movies, it is worrisome to hear the likely director has such a full schedule that could reduce his ability to do a good job. The Conan the Barbarian made by Edward R. Pressman and Oliver Stone will be hard to top. I love the serious approach to that film and the care with which it was made. One of my all-time favorites for sure.
