‘Legends Of The Super Heroes’ Hits DVD

It’s no secret that I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with Batman, and that obsession certainly includes the Adam West, camp-fueled television series of the 1960s. So, when I saw that the ultra-rare Legends of the Super Heroes is getting released on DVD on October 19, I could hardly contain myself. This is the one artifact from the Adam West era that I have never seen, and guys… it’s totally the stuff of legend.

In this remastered format from the original tape that was believed to be destroyed, Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) team up with The Flash, Green Lantern, and more members of The Justice League to face off against The Riddler (Frank Gorshin, who is totally insane), Mordru, Weather Wizard, and more in a live-action onslaught of awesome. The DVD includes the episodes “The Challenge” and “The Roast,” but it also features never-before-seen deleted scenes that are most likely just as crazy as the entire premise for the DVD.

Two other details about this feature: Ed McMahon shows up as an emcee (?), and the episodes are recorded with a laugh track (???). That’s literally all I can say.

Again, I have never seen Legends of the Super Heroes, but I have no doubt that it’s absolutely amazing, so pre-order it now from Warner Archive!

Official Synopsis

Heroes and villains of DC Comics square off in the two-part, live-action, made-for-TV (with a laugh track!) smackdowns of Legends of the Super Heroes. The Challenge: Batman and Robin (Adam West and Burt Ward of the live-action Batman TV series) lead The Flash, Green Lantern and more JLA members against The Riddler (Frank Gorshin reprising his TV role), Mordru, Weather Wizard and other Doom-dealers. The Legion’s ultimate gambit: trick the heroes into downing a diabolical depowering drink! The Roast: Poking fun beats swapping punches when celebrity host Ed McMahon emcees a rowdy rave-up. Who knew DC Super Heroes and villains packed as much verbal wit as physical grit when not locked in mortal combat? These Legends will leave you laughing.

  2. It’s a complete crapfest. I have had these for years now. The big evil plan is to get the heros to drink lemon aid!

  3. One of the greatest lines from one of the best scenes in a super hero movie “Some days you just can’t get rid of a bomb.”

I am really excited about this.

  4. @ Brian M. Frain:

That line is from the 60s theatrical “Batman” movie, not “Legends”. That being said, I agree. It’s one of the greatest movie lines. Ever.
