After the Goodnight Dune illustrated children’s book made the rounds yesterday, Meredith over at Coilhouse decided to unearth a found treasure from her collection: the Dune Activity Book series, which were released in 1984 as tie-ins to the David Lynch film Dune.
These movie tie-in activity books were filled with pages for coloring, puzzles, games, cut-outs, mazes, and more to keep children, occupied for hours. Unfortunately, a lot of the content was totally inappropriate for children!
For example, in the image above, your 9-12 year old could color in this quaint scene of Paul taking the pain test!
Visit the Coilhouse link for more images from these activity books and prepare to laugh at the absurdity — although, there is also a lovely recipe for No-Bake Spice Cookies, nom nom.
I used to love these movie tie-in activity books when I was a kid, and I’m sure I’d have thought nothing of the inappropriateness of these Dune tie-ins if I’d have had them as a child. Nope, I imagine I’d have been blissfully coloring and cutting away! (Oh, the good old 80’s.)
