It’s time for Renee Zellweger to start chowing down again, as a third Bridget Jones movie is officially in the works.

The actress notoriously plumped up to play the title character in 2001’s Bridget Jones’s Diary, then after losing the weight, fattened herself up even more for the 2004 sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Now, EW’s Inside Movies has the scoop that Working Title Films, the production company behind the previous movies, are going ahead with a third Bridget Jones film.

The first two films were based on respective best-selling novels by Helen Fielding, who has yet to complete a third Bridget Jones book, though there’s no word whether the new film would even be based on a new book.

Apparently, this follow-up sequel has been on the table since 2009, and Colin Firth, who plays, Mark Darcy, one of Bridget’s love interests in the films, had previously talked about a possibly storyline.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that Firth’s statements will be what the third movie turns out to be about, but it does logically follow, doesn’t it? The previous stories were about the neurotic, self-sabotaging Bridget trying to lose weight and kick her many bad habits while trying to date and establish her career. Since she’s finally happy, why not make this one about her having difficulty getting pregnant?

While it’s not really my kind of genre, I did read Bridget Jones’s Diary and saw the movie and thoroughly enjoyed them both; the sequel, not so much, since I felt it took everything that was good about its predecessor and just took it over the top, losing most of the magic that made the first movie so special.

And please, don’t make Bridget even fatter in this movie – or, Hollywood’s perception of “fat.” In the first movie, I wouldn’t say Zellweger was fat or even overweight; rather, she just wasn’t “Hollywood thin.” In the second movie, it’s obvious they tried to fatten her up some more and make her as unattractive as possible, which, in my opinion, does not fit the profile of Bridget Jones from the books. I can imagine in this third movie her really being unattractive, as if marriage made her totally not care about her looks. Ugh.

Anyhow, I guess I’m not looking forward to a third movie, although, I’ll take any reason to see Colin Firth on screen. Would you like to see a Bridget Jones 3?
