As much as we would all like to see a Battle Angel movie being directed by James Cameron, we all knew that the adaptation would have to take a back seat since the director announced that he would be working on the Avatar sequels. And while those sequels have yet to shoot, Cameron is giving us his word that Battle Angel is coming, just not as soon as you like to think.
In an interview with MTV, Cameron did drop a few hints about the Avatar sequels saying it would bring an awareness to the relationship that man and nature share. He also claims that the story of the Avatar sequels are much more important to tell than the story of Battle Angel. I’m sure Battle Angel fans beg to differ.
It was once thought that Cameron would bring the story of Battle Angel to the big screen after working on Avatar. Apparently the director was also set to direct the adaptation before he directed Avatar. For those who are not familiar with the Battle Angel story, the anime blends themes from Terminator, I, Robot, and even The Hunger Games.
So why not hand off the project to another filmmaker? Well according to Cameron, someone will have to pry it from his cold dead hands to get the rights to direct the film. So those Battle Angel fans anxiously waiting to see their beloved anime hit the big screen will have to be extra patient, because its production isn’t expected to start for at least another few years.
