You know, BOOM! Studios should’ve just named Steed & PeelThe Avengers“. I mean, c’mon, that’s the actual name of the television show that this comic is based on, so they wouldn’t technically be lying. And it would have sold much better, and then a lot more people would be exposed to this fun little comic. Just a suggestion. This MAY be why I’m not in the marketing field.

I’ve been in love with this series since issue #1. It’s a nice, charming mystery/spy thriller that never takes itself seriously, manages to throw in a lot of humor without turning the book into a comedy, and there’s plenty of cliffhangers, page-turners, and such that make it really enjoyable.

Steed & Peel #5 was written by Anne Caulfield, and she does a FANTASTIC job! This was REALLY a collaboration between artist and writer, so I’m guessing she worked very closely with the artist on this issue. For spoiler’s sake, I won’t say who’s introduced in this issue, but it’s a pretty big deal and it comes across as just that. Caulfield did a fantastic job of making this mystery characters introduction actually MEAN something. Well played.

Oh, Ian Gibson. You certainly earned your paycheck with this issue. Drawing in two totally different styles here, this artwork is nothing short of AMAZING. In fact, he uses different styles on almost EACH PANEL. Yet each page is so easy to read and follow and the art actually tells the story that it needs to without you having to read the dialogue. But I recommend that you do!

Pick this up!!! It’s SO different from what you’re reading right now. Trust me, I KNOW what you’re reading. Bottom line is, this is a very fun and entertaining comic book. You can’t go wrong with this. And even though it’s the penultimate issue, you can totally come in cold and still enjoy the book.
