Guillermo del Toro’s ‘The Strain’ Gets Full Series Order From FX

Good news for fans of Guillermo del Toro and the horror book trilogy he wrote with Chuck Hogan, titled The Strain, as it has been announced that FX has ordered the TV adaptation to full series.

A little over a year ago we found out that the show was being developed by del Toro and LOST showrunner Carlton Cuse. Production on the pilot just finished up, and FX liked what they saw enough to greenlight a full 13-episode season, which will premiere in July of 2014.

The Strain stars Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Jack Kesy, Ben Hyland, and Miguel Gomez.

Here’s a description of the story:

The Strain is a high concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Del Toro and Hogan will co-write episodes of the series and be executive producers, while Cuse will be the showrunner.
