‘Broad City’ Writers To Pen ‘Jump Street’ Female Spinoff; ‘Men In Black’ Spinoff Still Being Discussed
  |  @   |

The thought of 21 Jump Street and Men In Black crossing over may have sounded like a crazy idea at first, but those leaked e-mails have confirmed such talks are being discussed. With studios jumping in to make almost every franchise they own a shared universe, crossing over Jump Street and MIB would be a great way to share and expand. A report from The Wrap says that Sony is working on expanding the Jump Street franchise with a female spinoff, while Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are working on the MIB crossover side.

According to the site, Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs have been hired to write a treatment for the 21 Jump Street female spinoff. In the first film, Rye Rye and Dakota Johnson were paired as the female undercovers, but seeing that Johnson is locked in for two more Fifty Shades films, it’s highly unlikely that she will return to reprise her role. However, with Aniello and Downs on board to pen the script, there is a huge opportunity to bring in Broad City stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson. The report adds that the spinoff will have the same comedic tone as the original film.

This shouldn’t be much of a probably anyway, since female-driven films like Bridesmaids and The Heat have proven to be critical and commercial successes. And the female Ghostbusters film has also garnered nothing but a massive positive response.

Moving on to the spinoff side, producer Neal Moritz and his Original Films oversee the development of Jump Street along with Hill, Tatum and Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed the first two films. The actual sequel still doesn’t have a director, and with Lord and Miller busy on projects like writing the Flash, writing the animated Spider-Man film, as well as the LEGO Movie Sequel, not to mention being attached to pen the Ghostbusters’ script, there is little chance of them directing the Jump Street sequel.

There is still no word if Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, or Josh Brolin will return to reprise their roles. Since there is no timetable on when Sony wants to shoot the crossover, we can’t be entirely sure if Brolin would be on board, because of his obligations over at Marvel.

  1. And the female Ghostbusters film has also garnered nothing but a massive positive response.

It has? Most fans of the films have nothing but negative things to say about it.
