Gambit. The one X-Men spinoff that seems to be having trouble finding a director. After losing two of its directors in the past two years, it looked like Gore Verbinski (A Cure For Wellness) may have been the director to finally make the Ragin’ Cajun film happen.
However, you can now add him to the growing list of directors who could not commit to the project, as Verbinski has departed the project. Find out what made the split happen in the full story below.
Remember how Gambit was one of the X-Men spinoffs FOX would be working on? The film would follow the critical and commercial success of Deadpool and Wolverine. Even Channing Tatum, who would star as the title character, appeared at SDCC to announce that the project was in development. But the film hit multiple production stalls and was even forced to be put on the shelf because they were unable to find a director. Both Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman walked away from the project due to creative differences. However, it seems like the studio was able to settle on Gore Verbinski to direct.
With a director locked down, the film can finally start taking the necessary steps towards production. But before they can do that, they have to assemble a cast. Reports say that Lizzy Caplan is in talks to be the first to join Tatum. More on the story below.
Gambit is just one of those X-Men spinoffs that has yet to enter production. The film has been in the development stage ever since they found Channing Tatum to play the title role. But one of the major problems is that the project has been unable to lock a director down.
Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman were both tapped to helm during separate occasions, but both left for their own reasons. However, it’s beginning to look like Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski might be the one to steer the ship. More on the story below.
